And I have just received my new Pullman tamper too, and it's quite extraordinary how it has immediately improved the consistency with which I can pour a shot of coffee.  I guess it IS because the tamper fits so perfectly to the filter --- no loose coffee around the edges --- and I can now see that I was probably tamping on a slope before, with a bit more coffee on one side of the filter basket than the other. It's so easy to get the coffee level now, and pack it down evenly. I never would have though that it could have made so much difference. Well done Greg!

Without, er, breaking the 'non-disclosure agreements' I impose upon the select few CGers who help me with prototyping and development, let me just say that I regard highly the feedback I receive from both my customers and those on this forum about usage experiences and future feature requests. Once a decision is made on any improvements to what has proven to be a successful design, I'll be only too glad to encourage whistleblowers everywhere, indeed I may pick up one of my own! Smiley

Greg and everyone- Its been 5 days now using my new tamper- and I simply cannot believe the difference it has made over the smaller convex one I had before. Grin
By this I mean- when I use the double spout- it always comes out at the same time on both sides or within a second or two of each other. The puck is left absolutely flat without daggy bits around the sides.
It has been an investment in coffeesnobbery.
Convex??? Why when this is sooo perfect! Cool

RH: "I know nussing" Smiley

My own opinions on that issue are well documented on my site, but I'm always looking for ways to improve things. There are many ideas out there, some good, some not so good. But I value the opinions of members of this site and am interested to hear what people think. Whether it actually results in any changes to my product line-up is another matter entirely.

Convex is now an option if you so desire. http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?num=1161587164

Personally I still go for flat but I don't claim to be the font of all wisdom and accept others may have different views.

After the amazing recommendations I have read on this site, my new Pullman Tamper arrived yesterday, and after convincing my other half that I shouldnt wait until christmas (think of how many good coffees he would be missing out on!!) I had a play today.

Didn't take too long to diagnose my tamping problem - my tamp was very uneven in the basket.  Had a very nice coffee this morning - and it was nice to get it right on my second shot, instead of the usual 5 or 6 goes.  As a result, I could sit down and leisurely enjoy my coffee - instead of being hot, bothered and frustrated!

I went with the Australian Oak handle, and I have to say it looks pretty amazing with the engraving.

Thanks Greg for this amazing product.

I can only add my recommendation and rave too after receiving my tamper from Greg 3 days ago.
A beautiful Jarrah handle fitted to a finely crafted base.
The difference it has made is amazing.
I keep inviting friends over just to show it off.
Many thanks Greg.

I too received my new Greg Pullman tamper this week and boy is it a work of art.  I went with the Wildfire Jarrah handle and the flat base.

It has made a big difference to my shots and is a million times better than the plastic tamper that came with my machine.

I've had my tamper for a couple of weeks now.
It actually took me a little while to readjust from all the allowances I used to make for the cruddy previous "thing".

Mine has the Jarrah handle and flat base and is rightly engraved "Thundergod".

Being an auditor I love the consistancy I can give my coffee making process.

The tamper quality is streets ahead of my coffee and will surely give a lifetime of faithful service.

I've now been using my FLAT based Pullman Tamper in conjunction with the machine for which it was designed for about a month. I could not have been happier with the results, until out of curiosity, I dug out the old generic tamper and pulled a couple of shots with it. Instant crap! Totally reinforced my decision to buy a Pullman, I'm now convinced that it doesn't matter how good your machine is, if you don't have a quality tamper that is a correct fit, then consistantly good coffee is nigh on impossible. Thanks again to Greg for taking my game to the next level.

Bart.
