My kids were really excited at seeing themselves and Daddy in print and they took it to school today for show and tell (which was cute).

Steve Agi did a great job on the article and apart from me cringing at photos of me I think it was a pretty fair summary of me and my  CoffeeSnob journey to date.

Thanks to everyone for your support over the years, its been a fun ride and we have plenty more fun and plenty of great coffee to come.

Love it!.... The story was great and lovely family pics!  Cool

PurfectCoffee and other C.S's  interested in "the coffee experience"  at the Good Food & Wine Show we registered online to "receive show updates" at www.goodfoodshow.com.au.
There is a link on the left side of the page  to the coffee experience  with "register here to receive show updates". Fantastic information on this page.  Tickets for the event can even be bought on line.
This event is held in other Aussie states  so check out the  dates.

A down side I saw in the email is contained in the following

"The goal of the Coffee Experience is to bring coffee on to the same platform as fine food and wine - to showcase the very best of Australian coffee to the elite of Australian food lovers and connoisseurs.

Coffee brands already involved include: Genovese, Campos, Espresso Elements, Gloria Jeans, Toby's Estate, Piazza D'oro, DiBella Coffee, Green Bean Coffee, and Cassa and Bottega."

I know you need big companies involved to make these things profitable but there are a couple of names in there that don't really fit with the "showcasing the very best of Australian coffee"

Big upside though getting Gwilym there though I would go along just for the opportunity to hear him speak.

I kind of know what you mean Moto, however they also started out as small speciality roasters with great coffee. The massive growth and franchising of some of these companys has greatly effected the quality we see on their shelves today. Im sure they are still capable of producing a product worthy of being showcased, its just that you won't find it on their shelves.
They do have interesting stories on the how they started out and what they have achieved.

I know for me, some of the commercialised second rate coffee provided on shelves by them were like a bridge from Instant Coffee to now roasting my own. I was a instant drinker, then discovered the espresso machine with store bought beans (thaught I was the bees knees) from this my interest grew and i found myself here at Snob land learning about roasting coffee and getting it to taste better in the cup.

I agree their product isn't the best but they do have their place and have played a roll.

Thats what I think anyway........
I also need to get some posts up on here.  Grin

I have looked to book online but can't seem to find anywhere to purchase a general admission ticket or what day(s) the coffee experience is on.  Would especially like to go when Gwilym is giving a talk etc.

Anyone have further info?

Hi andreasb. We are receiving emails from the Coffee Experience outlining what we can expect at the Good Food & Wine Show. Have not seen a detailed  program yet but we have not searched high and low due to time factor. If you google Good Food & Wine Show Melbourne June 2010 you will get the home page and the tabs for all the areas. There is a specific tab for purchasing tickets and there is information on all the areas being showcased. The Coffee Experience is going to be fantastic going by the emailed information. We have at least 4 more emails to come before the day so we will keep C.S's posted. All the best with your search. Thanks BeanScene.   Smiley

Hi all,

What a thrill I get from following all the banter and reading all your posts here on coffeesnobs.
Steve Agi here, editor of BeanScene. Thank you so much for making us feel so welcome and for your support and passion, it's bean quite a journey so far, but it's only just begun..... I promise you that!
I feel like slowly I am getting to know each and everyone of you in a very personal way, with our CoffeeSnob Corner section, which is personally a favoutrite of mine, as I love to read, learn and understand what it means to be a real coffeesnob, like YOU guys!
It was an incredible honour for me to be able to present to the world, the one and only Andy Freeman who I hold in the highest regard and have a deep respect for as a genuine and honest person and his trust, words of praise and thanks are priceless.
You truly are a great bunch of people and I feel proud being associated with you.
I look forward to catching up with you all at the coffee experience, next month, so come down and say g'day and lets grab a cuppa together....

congratulations on a great site, thanks for all the comments, even the spell check Wink (much appreciated) and keep on caffeining on...

Well our excitement is intensifying as we count down the days to the Coffee Experience at the Good Food &  Wine Show in Melbourne.
Wow!!!  SmileySteve Agi and BeanScene you have done so well with the program. We are just going to be blown away we can see that. There will not be enough hours in our Friday to take it all in.  Mrs Herbie being a VET Hospitality teacher is of course going to have to go to see George and Gary but we know we will be spending  a lot of time in the Coffee Experience as she has to extend her coffee knowledge also. Hopefully we will meet Steve the Editor of the fantastic BeanScene magazine in our travels.
All the information that you C.S.'s want as to session times etc for Gwilym et al  is on line at the GFS show  website.
Thanks so much to Steve  for your great words about the C.S. family in a previous post . They are very special people indeed with a great passion for all things coffee. And a HUGE thank you to BeanScene for sponsoring this fantastic event.
Camera is coming along in the hope we can put some pictures up for C.S. folks to view.   Smiley
Herbie and Mrs Herbie.

Another notable feature of the issue is that it was almost entirely about coffee with a passing nod to chai latte.

It fits in the same category as having an article on tea in the mag, makes sense, unlike the end of your question?

Thanks for that clarification moto coffee. The last part of my question meant if the nod was a big tick on Chai or was a technical formality. I am not sure if the Australian Cafe couture has warmed up to Chai yet unlike many mature markets which have evolved.

Seeing as the first espresso machines were imported in the 1950s (IIRC) and there were cafes before that, how old does the market have to be before it's considered mature?  Huh

Keeping in mind that after maturity comes old age and decline. Wink

There are still a lot of the population that don't know what chai is but the numbers are most certainly increasing, I have found that the article is fairly spot on with its analysis of chai drinkers and it reflects my experience with chai. It is a growing market that is for sure.

Thanks Moto Coffee. Yeah, while the evangelisation of Chai as a beverage option is surely on- ignorance is indeed a hurdle and a difficult one at that. It is encouraging to note that the numbers are growing steadily. What would you as an industry specialist think of promoting Chai as an alternate option? Any ideas ?

Sounds like you need to start a new thread and give a little more specifics as to your request.
