The work beast!!!
Jul 26th, 2009, 1:51pm

I didn't know where else to post this but i just wanted to show everyone my most prized possession... even though its not actually mine i treat like it is Smiley

Price...LOTS!!! Actually about $16,000+ i think i heard my boss say...but its had a few mods done to it. 1 of only 4 in Australia apparently?!?!?!

It is a Mirage from Kees van der Westen at Espressonistic Works B.V
Mirage Tripplette actually...uses E61 group heads and has a boiler per group...foot operated steam on the right hand side.. Temp varience?... 0.1c !!!

Anyway... anybody else work on one of these? or have seen one for that matter?

I think tobeys estate in Chippendale have them. Unless it is an unusual variant of the mirage brand. Would love to have one in the van but that is never going to happen.   Sad

A Ferrari Van with a Mirage fitted??? hmm

Between Polishing the Mirage and then the Ferrari... i would barely have enough time to sell coffee. But if i had enough money for a Mirage fitted Ferrari, i would probably spend most the time cruising past my custamers  Cheesy

But man would it be fast service if i stoped!!!  lol

There's a very funny part in that particular post - I think the terms conceive and gestation might have been a little confused.  Grin

The Ferrari crowd, if not already enraged enough from  my posts, will be forming a lynch party by suggesting a Citroen could be in any way compared to a Ferrari

Talk about understated... Grin

That's a classic...a Citroen able to go from 0 to 60mph in under 5 seconds! Unheard of! Until you hear it! Wow! It's hilarious when all you hear is that awesome sound of the Ferrari engine and then...a bread van overtakes you!  Grin

IIRC one of them is now in the roastery though. In fact, think its next to the cupping station....

wasn't bagging toby's - mostly I feel that they're a good roaster w/ patchy staff @ chippendale.

Isnt it funny how things all seem to go pear shaped at once?

I came into work on friday morning to find the Mirage in non working order. No power at all!

It took till mid day to have it fixed and while the fixit guy was there i had him have a look at the Mahkonig grinder as i had it wound all the way down to its finest setting and need more play room. It seems as thought the "locking" pins had not locked at all and the adjustment gears had seized them selfs shut!

Anyway..after a lenthy amout of blood sweat and cursing from the fixit guy i sent him packing along with the grinder to be returned ealy next week. So i pulled the old Mazzer out! back to manual dosing i was kind of enjoying the challenge of it all untill we got busy. Then it became apparent the reason why we upgraded in the first place.

Anyway!...good times had by all  Tongue

Oh! and while im here i should point out that its not a tripple boiler as i was led to believe.

What is it them you may ask?...

An overgrown ECM Giotto! heat issues and all!

A 15l single HX boiler wich explains why it runs cool on the left and hot on the right group...

I dont suppose anyone has the instruction manual for this thing?

lol bl.

someone wondered where-else these can be seen - a number of toby's or ex-tobys accounts have them, such as Workhouse Espresso (black labelling) @ TGV Sydney and Willy & Jo's Depot in Bondi (now using Morgans).

So there's at least 5 in Sydney - I think your estimate of 4 may have been a little bit on the "I caught a big fish" side  Wink. They're excellent machines though Smiley

I totally agree!

With the exception of the whole cleaning thing. It gets soo damn dusty. Combine that with the ocean air which im sure cant be good for it and i spend a lot of time cleaning it.

The only thing i can fault it on is the fact the drip tray is not easily removed for rinsing and cleaning. The top grill part comes straight off but the bottom stays put.

The heat issues arent bad at all if i continue to use all 3 groups consecutively or at least keep the right hand side group used often to keep the heat soak down.

As for the number of units in OZ... maybe it was the fourth into the country at the time my boss was given those numbers? Good to hear there are more though.

I think i was able to convince my boss to get an original Kees Van Western naked portafilter for it? Fingers crossed  Smiley
