Chic Espresso - Brisbane
Dec 16th, 2009, 8:04pm

Visited for the first time today, It seems like yet another quality espresso bar has recently opened up in Brisbane Cheesy.

I had the house blend (24/7) and a SO Kenyan Lena. 24/7 as a piccolo and an espresso - was very happy with both. 24/7 had a nice amount of acidity and sweetness.
Kenyan piccolo with milk, could taste hint citrus and definitely choc.

Hosts are very friendly people, on my second visit of the day Dean made up a pour over using sumatran Linton (I think??, could be wrong). It was nice to have that sort of experience in a city based espresso bar. All the coffees, including the pour over had a nice clean finish.

Coffee: 5 senses
Hardware: Synesso matched with a Mazzer Electronic

Seriously good coffee and service! You'd be crazy not to give this one a go.

I think it is technically considered to be under the Commonwealth Bank 109 Leichhardt Str, but the entrance is on Upper Edward Str.

I took my kids to Chic the other day.
The choc milkshakes were tasty but my youngest found a tooth in her brownie. Not to worry tho, it was hers  Grin.

Seriously tho, the few times I have been there I have been treated to good conversation and great coffee.

You know it's good when you find other speciality coffee shop owners sitting in there drinking a coffee.

Tell your fellow snobs, your  fussy friends, tell the people you meet who dont even like the smell of coffee, even tell the UNBORN that this is where you should try coffee.
Chic Cnr Edward and Leichhardt st Brisbane City.
Competiton galore surrounds them, Within a 3 minute walk there maybe at least 8 coffee oulets, a few relying on a half decent reputation or supported by a strong coffee brand.
Its like fishing in a sea full of mullet and hooking a big salmon.
My Ethiopian Harrar ristretto was the second one in 15 years that was true to the bean.
My Double Short latte (piccolo) made with 5 senses 24/7 blend had the Wow factor.
Halfway through the cup I couldnt wait to finish it and order another.
Second cup was great too. Hot day here, totally non idyllic for coffee, but found blend and brew method totally refreshing.
Mistake on my part was enjoying the complimentary shot of mineral water after my shot of Harrar. Mineral water was special but should have used it to clean my palate first instead of removing the Harrar experience and preferred lasting linger.
Compliments to growers of beans, blenders and roasters, manufacturers of machines and the brewer of espresso, Dean.
Get fussy and spend your money well. Visit Chic, they deserve a queue.
My belief is you will not be disappointed,  if you are I will shout you a mullet.
Well done guys.
Notes:Five senses blend 24/7 /single origin daily/synesso/mazzer E plus some/ thinking pretty special water filter on reflection of clean taste and  medium body.

Fifty posts at last! I've been dying to put in a good word for Dean and Chic Espresso. My only regret at not working in the CBD/Spring Hill area is that I don't get to frequent Chic Espresso often enough.

I always enjoy trying the SO on offer as a doppio ristretto and the 24/7 as a latte.

Dean is a great guy and far too modest regarding his abilities as a barista.

I have to agree, he really is serving up some amazing espresso!!
I think Katherine definitely deserves some kudos as well, they are friendly and fantastic hosts. They are setting the benchmark in regards to customer service. I am loving that place!

Chic is one of my favourite espresso bars.  Dean and Catherine are amazingly friendly hosts and it's a great atmosphere to drink coffee in.

Has quickly become a daily stop for me heading back into the city for my bus. New SO's every week, Dean and Katherine have very few equals in the hospitatlity stakes. The Brazil based blend he had on last week was one of the best coffees I have tasted.

OT..good to see you posting through Ant.

Good to see a queue. Chic is serving ambrosial shots. Pat yourselves on the back and keep on pushing the ante up in Brisbane.
