BeanBay GREEN bean Sale - Jan 10th 2010
Jan 9th, 2010, 3:12pm

Happy New Year 2010

2009 was a huge year for CoffeeSnobs everywhere and we proudly welcomed the 10,000th member last month.  The year saw many get togethers, roast-offs and just a great vibe around the site with everyone sharing tip and tricks and of course, enjoying great coffee.

2010 will be an even bigger year!  Currently we are setting-up the new Snobbery which should become one big playroom for all CS'rs to fiddle with all sorts of coffee gear including beans, machines, grinders and even roasters.  We should have a few training days/nights and of course we will also have tonnes of great coffee and social events throughout the year.  Its going to be a blast.

Tomorrow sees the first BeanBay Green sale of the year.  (Sorry for the short notice but we only just finished packing it all ready)

BeanBay GREEN BEAN sale

Sunday 10th January
At the following times:

20 00 ACT, NSW, VIC, TAS
19 30 SA
19 00 QLD
18 30 NT
17 00 WA
http://beanbay.coffeesnobs.com.au

on offer are:

Nicaragua Cima del Cielo $16.50/kg*
This came 3rd in the Nicaragua Cup of Excellence and we managed to land 300kg of it (so there is plenty to go around).  This is a very chaffy coffee in the roaster and in the cup a mid bodied, very sweet and balanced coffee when roasted to a CS9 but those roasting for a  syphon might go a little lighter than that.

PNG Wahgi Peaberry $10.50/kg*
The sample of this bean seemed to be forever ago and at last it has arrived.  Like most peaberry beans it can be tricky to roast as things get really busy at the end of the roast but the results are well worthwhile.  Like it's flat bean cousin it is high in acidity and works really well in milk.

Sumatra Mandheling Gr1 2009 Crop $9.00/kg*
Ah, one of those really messy, dusty, chaffy Sumatrans that produce huge body and low acidity in the cup with a does of earthiness for interest.  This was only picked two months ago and has come straight off the boat.  Any fresher you would have to pick it yourself!

We have also landed a small amount of additional stock of some previous favourites and the remainder of the Tanzania Rononi will become available for those that need a second bag.

I hope that each and everyone of our extended CS family has a fantastic 2010 full of new and old friends, good family times and amazing coffee.

Enjoy!

 Andy.

* all CoffeeSnob green beans are packed in 2.5kg cotton bags and include a $0.50/kg FairCrack donation.

Well done Andy. A great start to the year.

The Nicaraguan looks to be a must-have as does the Peaberry.

A great start to the year, thanks Andy!

This is only going to further my current fascination with Central American coffee methinks ... Maybe another bag of Rononi which fast became a favourite in the hazchem/gomiffy household.

At $16 (plus FairCrack ) for the Nicaragua its certainly not a cheap coffee so some CS'rs might want to share a bag with another local but for those that want a bag the 300kg should more than cover all of you and maybe have some left for a revisit later!

The Mandheling is the exact inverse of the Wahgi Peaberry... but the two will actually work quite well together in a blend as the Wahgi will help the choc\berry\earth from the Sumatran pull though a milk based drink and add sweetness.

Rononi was my coffee of the year.  How could anything be sweeter or better in the cup than knowing we made a positive impact on the otherside of the planet to people we may never meet in an area that we may never see.  It was the joining of the full circle.  Amazing to be a part of!

Hi, I just re-joined after a fair while away - I was just wondering why you start a sale at 10 PM?

Cheers - Tony

Looks like 8pm (20 00) start for east coasters Smiley I'm assuming that we here in WA have a 5pm start! Great news Andy! Look forward to tomorrow night.

Not too sure where you get 10pm from Tony (are you in New Zealand?).

As newbee-snob noted its 8pm on the bulk of the east coast and other places as per the timezone and daylight saving difference.

Our sale timings are very tricky though.  8pm is late in the east, 5pm is early in the west... we have picked that time to best suit the whole country.

Fixed the WA time in the first post now.. ta.

Maybe we should just quote GMT and then everyone can work their own time out.  (that would be fun!).

I think BeanBay kicks off at GMT 2010/01/10/09:00:00

Lovely.
So you could use:

As a starting point and modify as required.

Of course, it doesn't take Minnesota into account  Wink

Not sure how you could make it any clearer than it was in the OP (E&OE)

It's served us well for the last x years that BB has been running .

Which reminds me - are we returning to the normal opening hours now Andy?

We always run similar hours, sometimes the starting times change...

Each month BeanBay is open for a day or two from the scheduled starting time then we have to close-off the pickup points so we can pack and freight the beans to ship interstate in bulk.

The remaining beans will still be available for post and courier shipping options after that though.

As always, if you are after a specific bean we suggest you jump on the site at starting time to avoid disapointment.

iPhone ordering might be a little rude in IMAX but don't worry, there should be plenty of beans there when you get home.

PS: Off-topic but I hear Avatar is great at IMAX

Yeah, I knew that I was going to want to buy it regardless, if it was crummy I would have framed it and hoped that their next crop improved but it was a bonus it was great coffee.  I gave it to a few people as a "blind espresso" and they loved it too.

Please note:

In BeanBay tonight we will be missing photos of the 3 new coffees, sorry, it totally slipped my mind today (which I spent at the Snobbery roasting)

So the 3 new ones will just show the CS logo until tomorrow night when I can take pictures and upload 'em.

Confession!!!

Forgive me Andy for I have sinned,  it has been 3 months since my last BeanBay...

My sins have been drinking only 2-3 coffees a day to stretch out my BB stash.

My Penance will be to walk to Caffine Freak's house in wembley (35min by car mostly @100km/hr) on the 23rd of this holy month of January to pick up my/your/our beloved grean beans.

Wow, you are very brave admitting that in this thread.  The first step to rehab is understanding you have a problem, now that its in the open I'm sure that the supportive CS'rs at the WA pickup will guide you to a far higher average consumption in no time flat!

We have fairly high stocks of most of the beans so you shouldnt have to "over buy" now... and you should be able to grab something you loved later in the month if needed.  ...but you have plenty enough beans in the stash Greenman!

All the current PayPal payments have been marked off and should show as paid under your previous orders tab in BeanBay: http://beanbay.coffeesnobs.com.au/Orders.aspx
I'll try and ship all of these out tomorrow.

For those that did bank transfers, we will see the payments on Tuesday (bank computers don't work Monday!) and will then ship those out over the following days.

With anyluck the interstate pickup point beans will all be paid for by the middle of the week and we will ship them early too.

Enjoy!

 Andy.

A lot of beans still there...

With our extra storage at "Snobbery Too" we have been buying more beans than we can easily sell in a night which means that CS'rs can grab more of something later if they really like it and those that didnt get to a computer tonight will still be able to buy some tomorrow.

Of course I have to balance that against the dollar amount that I can hold without selling the house and how much I can drink if it doesnt sell.
Grin

We still moved a mountain of beans so the holidays didnt make too much difference.  I think the Sunday night timeslot means that people jumped on, bought what they wanted and then went back to "normal life" without hanging around for a chat.

Andy,
didn't notice the mistake in the price of the Nic 'til I saw the posts. Happy to pay the correct price........or donate to faircrack...........let me know/invoice/pm me.

Brilliant work my man and we in WA will indeed make sure that Short Mac pays penance for their slackness in consumption.

happy in greenery

That was a really quiet beanbay...school holidays?  Huh

Agreed!

Very strange.... I'm used to fellow snobs quoting how they have bought and paid in less than a minute of BB opening......I was in and out and waiting...but to no avail.... You'll have to make it harder Andy Tongue I've missed the passion from fellow snobs telling of their achievements of snaring greens from iphones or empty cans with string attatched etc. Cheesy

I've been loving the Rononi so I had to order more - we are going to try and host a 'Fair Crack' fundraiser at the office where for a small donation people can try the rononi coffee and hear the story - all proceeds to fair crack (if we get any takers!)

I really did laugh out loud at that.

Overnight to Tralgon is pretty good!  The e-parcel 3-5 days is a best guess around the country.  eParcel won't give any delivery guarantee times but they will be as quick as road freight can be... and great value for heavy orders.

'twas my oops, no need to adjust as everything balances out in the somewhere down the track.

No worries!

Everything that was paid for yesterday was sent and should be arriving around the country today.  All the bank transfers from Sunday night and Monday appeared in our account this morning and were shipped today so most of the BeanBay-beans have now left here.

Those that are still to pay should do so NOW, even more so for the pickup points as these will ship Thursday and if the payment isnt in our account we will just remove the orders from the bulk shipping.

Happy roasting everyone!

Don't think so... it displayed like a normal posted message for a while, then vanished. Was about whether I needed to be home for the courier, so now a bit redundant, since he turned up today, thanks
