BeanBay GREEN sale - 14th March 2010
Mar 12th, 2010, 5:55pm

BeanBay GREEN BEAN sale

Sunday 14th March

2000 ACT, NSW, VIC, TAS
1930 SA
1900 QLD
1830 NT
1700 WA
http://beanbay.coffeesnobs.com.au

The beans available at the above date/times will be:

Papua New Guinea Wahgi AA $11/kg*.
A new crop of those big, bold beans that produced such an even and good looking roast. It will work through a range of roast depths and at a CS8 you will find a mid bodied, bright shot through to a CS9 where the sweetness is dominant to a CS10 where the body becomes heavier.  A fun bean to roast with great results in the cup.

Ugandan Masaba AA $9.50/kg*
Well processed and screened large it produced a surprisingly large amount of chaff for a washed bean when roasting.  I roasted this to a CS9, nearly a CS10 and it was full of dark cocoa in the espresso shots.  Great as a single origin or use it with a body bean to produce a good simple blend. This is the first time that we have tried the Masaba and I hope it becomes a regular to our shores in the future.

Haiti Grand Cru $21.50/kg*
Haiti is better known recently for the terrible natural disaster and not often thought of as a coffee origin, but it is!  Haiti grows a very small amount of coffee and the best of the crops typically end up in the USA and Japan and it’s quite rare for any to make it to Australia.  We have a VERY small amount of this available, it’s washed and well graded and as an espresso produced a big creamy bodied shot that oozed across the front palate.  Just 1 bag per person please and I’m sorry in advance for those that will miss out, maybe befriend a CS’r that got some and try a cup.

Hawaii Kona Extra Fancy $55.50/kg*
This coffee hails from the most famous of the Hawaiian coffee growing islands, Kona.  It was grown and processed by Captain Cook Estate (pretty ironic considering the Hawaiians were responsible for his demise).  It’s a fully washed coffee, very clean almost polished appearance and is easy to roast even with the added pressure of the expense.  I took it to a careful CS8 and found very smooth, clean and balanced and quite similar to the Jamaican coffee in style.  Only a small amount of this is available and due to the high price it has been packed in 1kg lots.

We also have stock of:

Peru Ceja de Selva Estate
Indian Monsoon Malabar AA
Ethiopian Gambella Sundried
Brazil Pulped Natural
China Yunnan Hougu
Zambia Munali Estate
India Madikeri Robusta
...and more

* prices include $0.50/kg donation to FairCrack.  All coffees are packed as 2.5kg in natural cotton bags with the exception of the Jamaican and the Hawaiian coffees which due to their high price are in 1kg lots packed in foil/clear bags.

Hi Andy,
For some reason I didn't receive the BeanBay sale notification email.
Luckily I've just cruised by the site to discover there is one on Sunday.
This has occurred previously unfortunately. Hope it can be sorted for future sales as I am mobile internet connected and can not always "get on".
Cheers,
Kevo

Kevo,

I don't think the e-mail has gone out yet as the list of coffees has not been finalised.

If the e-mail has gone out, I didn't get mine either and I have never missed out thus far.

Brett.

Spot-on Brett.

I spent the whole day packing beans and have just got home (scrounging some dinner soonish I hope).

The coffees are in the first post (above) now.

The email will be sent after I do some work on the list to remove some addresses and fix some errors that have caused some people to not get an email in the past.

Most people that buy green beans cruise the site often so they do see the notice here.

You can also install the CoffeeSnobs toolbar (link at the very bottom of the page) and it has a twitter icon that will show the latest tweets including notice of future green bean sales

Or you can go to:
http://twitter.com/coffeesnobs

Or you can keep an eye on:
http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?board=NewPolls

Or you can hope that the email gets through all the ISP and Outlook  spamfilters.

There is more than one way to skin a cat get a heads-up that beans are coming.

Three very good reasons to break the buying ban. This month's offering will be hard to top, sure you haven't gone out too hard too fast to start the year, Andy?

Cool.  We always send 10,700 emails and didnt get any errors but we always get plenty of "click here to confirm you are a real person" and "I'm out of the office" type bounces each month as well as ISP's spam filtering so I guess at least some of the "I didnt get an email" each month is for those reasons.

We only send one email a month (on average) and never spam or trade your address so we always recommend that you use a real email address in your forum details (not a junk mail one).

For those that didnt get an email the guts were that we will be away from Easter Sunday till the 22nd April...

Quote:
NO COFFEE FOR HALF OF APRIL?
In April the SCAA conference is on in Anaheim, California and I’m heading over again.  Javaphile and I will try to post plenty of pictures and stories from the ground to keep everyone up to date with the comings and goings at one of the world’s largest coffee trade shows.

I fly out Easter Sunday and return nearly three weeks later on the 22nd April.  Before leaving I will roast plenty of roasted sample packs and these will be available in BeanBay available for next day shipping while I’m away.

Please place your other roasted coffee orders before Easter so I can roast and ship them before I leave.

Any other orders for green or roasted beans placed while I’m away will remain in the system and will be processed the day I return.

Yeah, plenty I guess.
I fly back in at 5am so with any luck I spent most of the previous 14 hours snoring on the plane and will be fresh (ha!) and ready to roast.

I plan on heading straight to the roastery and should get here at about 7am then on to Snobbery Too later in the day to ship it all out.

...it all makes sense when typed.

I once drank a bag of ground Kona that my parents had opened and kept in their freezer for years. Wonderful coffee. Well sealed thankfully, without any hint of frozen peas. or lamb chops

Thanks Andy for offering the Kona and the Jamaican Blue Mountain in 1 kg bags.

I notice the Blue Mountain has not all sold yet. Would you consider now making it even more accessible to members by offering 500g bags? The cost would still be double a typical 2.5kg bag.

Phew - that was, I think, the quickest I've seen anything disappear!!!  The Haiti lasted about 20 seconds, all up!

Thanks Andy for another great BeanBay!  Kiss

Yeah, we all suffer from that nagging thought of "I hope this is as good as it can be", which is amplified with expensive coffee.

I really need to only carry one similar coffee name each month... it gives me grief too when packing orders as I have to read each order and label about 4 times to make sure.

6 months ago we had 3 different Sumartan coffees together one month and I swear it took me twice as long to pack everything.

Nothing like someone driving into a street pole 30mins before beanbay and knocking out the power supply to the whole suburb.

Fortunately I wasn't after the exotic beans so still got what I needed albeit 2 hrs later.

Simsy that's 30min to get to a friend/relative/internet cafe on another side of town - or wave cars down to see who has a mobile phone with internet to make the emergency order.

As Andy said, plenty of ways to skin a cat roast coffee beans Smiley

For me it was Indian Monsoon Malabar AA, Ethiopian Gambella Sundried, Brazil Pulped Natural and Double Dutch Pure Cocoa.
Will be visiting Caffeinefreak for the central pickup, what nerves of steel able to sit around all those green beans without going roast crazy!

Congrats on the ton of posts Simsy and I hope the dopey driver that hit the pole was ok!

...also glad you got what you were after and power was restored in the same evening.
