We're all booked and heading up with a whole heap of excess baggage (actually, I might send it up on a truck)...

In the morning, I'll be on shots with the killer Izzo Alex Duetto/Macap M4D combo, which will be a special guest of Ofra and Renzo at the Di Bartoli stand.

Later, I'll cross the floor and will be with Charlie, Sal and the ECA guys on their stand- hopefully on the new Giotto Evoluzione!

I expect that might make it the first 2011 WBC competition in the world!!!

That's a great (return) venue for the comp, the last 3 years its been too "secret" for mum 'n dad spectators to see it.  It will do a great job of raising the profile of competition coffee too.

Sydney Rocks Aroma Festival 2010

Hi CS'ers!

Di Bartoli will exhibit this year in Aroma with couple of surprises up its sleeve.. Lips Sealed

Please note that the Domestic Machines Expo has changed a venue this year, and will be held within the Foundation Hall of the Museum of
Contemporary Art instead of the Passenger Terminal.

The Foundation Hall can be accessed either through the MCA foyer located at 140 George Street, the MCA cafe located on the ground floor of the Circular Quay promenade (Main Entrance) or through large double doors opening directly out onto First Fleet Park (Southern Entrance).

This year, we've got some exciting additions  to our stand:

-Di Bartoli launches the Di Bartoli Medea Espresso Machine, manufactured by Bezzera and sold exclusively by Di Bartoli in Australia.  Shocked

-We welcome Talk Coffee as the importer of Izzo to demonstrate the Izzo Alex Duetto on our stand and wow us with the coffee  it makes! (see ya there Chris Wink)

-We will also host Craig from OTTO who will showcase this piece of art, answer questions and will help with tips for the best brew.

-The Mahlkonig Vario Grinder will be demonstrated and offered on special price on the day! so any snobs that craves one, that's your opportunity!

And there's some more: exciting New Green Beans, MyPressi & Kyocera Grinder Special, Aroma discounted prices on all Machines & Grinders we sell, as well as 5% discount on all Accessories, Cleaning products, Publications & Roasted Beans sold on the day!

Di Bartoli seek CS volunteers who'd like to join us for the bump in/out times (Sat 24th 10am-5pm & Sun 5pm-6:30pm) and the event day.

If you're interested, please visit our discussion thread on our Facebook Aroma Festival Page to sign up or for more info:

Just to let you know that due to a sponsorship conflict, the NSW Barista Competition will not be on during AromaFest*

unfortunately I have heard the NSW heats have been cancelled and won't be held at Aroma after all. Keep an eye on the AASCA website for more details.

That's just plain silly!
Roll Eyes

The biggest coffee event in the country and they cannot have the best competitors in the state show their craft?

Sheeze.

So what was the conflict?

I'm not speaking officially, but I could guess that with Aroma Festival listing Riverina Fresh as their Exclusive milk supplier, and Pura (I think) as the sponsor for NSW Latte Art heat I can see a potential conflict.

Very disappointing. Regardless of what I think about Aroma (well, the coffee served at Aroma) its this kind of large commercial event that should be welcoming organisations like AASCA and the competition heats they run. I do hope AASCA are able to find a similar event to hold the NSW Heats at.

I see the conflict too; but what a terrible shame.  An opportunity to do something great for the industry and for the public has been lost.  I think that the Aromafest organisers and milk sponsors would have gained more kudos, long-term loyalty, and support if they had worked this out with a spirit of camaraderie.

Will site sponsors have machines available for purchase on the day? Or will they need to be picked up from the retailer's actual store? I'm from the outer west so getting to places like DiBartoli and JetBlack is difficult, so I was hoping to have a play with some machines and hopefully walk away with one at the end of the day.

Hi daniel-san

Scroll to the top of this thread and see Di Bartoli's post. Usually each year they move their entire shop to the Aroma Festival.

Likewise, Jetblack will have a range of equipment to check out. ECA usually have a stand as well. No doubt there will be interstate sponsors as well such as Di Bella

I wouldn't mind betting they will let you walk out with one (after paying, of course). It means at least one less piece of equipment they will have to cart back again.

Hi daniel-san,

Di Bartoli will have few machines demonstration on our stand: the new Di Bartoli Medea, the Izzo Alex Duetto, the Isomac Tea and the Giotto Premium Plus. As we usually include free training and calibration with each purchase, we normally would not sell machines from the stand.

However, you are welcome to contact me via PM or phone on 02 9389 9892 to further discuss the right machine for you, and we'll be happy to make an exception on the day if more convenient, pre-testing and scheduling training for another time.

Please let me know if we can help at all!

Ofra

Hello All,

we will have a stand at Aroma Festival and the machines we demonstrate from will be available for happy clients to take away with them at the end of the show for a nice price.

We will have a range of DIADEMA JUNIOR EXTRA, REGAL, SPLENDOR MAXI, PERFETTA & RANCILIO SPECIAL EDITION SILVIA machines on demo as well as a few grinders.

We'll have a number of demo machines that can be bought and taken at the end of the day. New machines can be freighted out to you on Monday after they're primed, tested and calibrated.

Hi CS's,

Here's an extract from the Sydney Morning Herald Good Living, about Aroma Festival:

"The Rocks Aroma Festival is a celebration of the passion for cafe culture and a comprehensive expo on the tends and tastes that are giving consumers an ever growing array of opportunities to express their personal preference.

This year, a record of more than 100 stalls will span over four sectors representing four global regions:

-The Oasis over Hickson Rd will feature Middle Eastern treats, like: belly dancing, Turkish Coffee and camel rides.
-The South American Latin Quarter will be held in Feet Park (just outside the Domestic Machines Expo).
-The Orient will centre around Campbells Cove where herbal teas, chais and spices will transport you to Asia.
-The Continent, at the Overseas Passenger Terminal (previously venue of the Domestic Machines Expo), will feature delicacies from all over Europe.

The Domestic Machines Expo will be held for the first year at the MCA Foundation Hall, showcasing espresso machines importers and retailers displaying the latest  high end coffee gadgets for the Home Barista"

Something to look for, hey? Tongue

Lets cross our fingers that the weather will be welcoming on Sunday..

Would have liked to but the timing sucked.  We landed stock on Friday, way too close/late to get a stall.  Next one though...

I can only guess that Tuesday is still a hangover from a super busy weekend and this week will be crazy for you guys.

Thunderstorm?  Wet stuff?  I think I remember rain!

What were the crowd estimates?
How was the new machine venue?

We normally have plenty of pics posted but I didnt get there this year.  Hopefully someone has some shots to share.

I actually thought the machine venue was a  bit small, it was in a top location for people to find it (and a big sign out front Smiley ) but it was very crowded and I did not think it gave vendors a great opportunity to demonstrate there stuff (space wise). There where just so many people in there !!!! (@ +- 1pm)

As a CS'r and mostly just tire kicking i thought a bit bad hogging space standing around to try to get a look at equipment. But i was hoping ot checkout if anything interesting was floating around....

the DB, JB stand was crowded and CosmoreX where also packed (where i eventually got a nice coffee X 2)

where it was the prior year gave the vendors a lot more space I thought it allowed each seller more space around there machines etc.

I hope the coffee vendors got some good sales leads out of it as they certainly put the effort in to put on a good display

it's a great free event showcasing some good food but imo the logistics of how that food is prepared can let the "aroma" down.

this is just my opinion from a "shopper" so.... gain of salt etc...

My crew and I would like to extend a warm thank you to all that visited our stand.  Its great talking to people that are interested and appreciate the effort that goes into Aroma festival which IS, Australia's premium coffee and equipment show.

We too were drenched in the (quasi torrential) down pour while loading up after the show, but it presented no trouble to those of us that had had a good day and were well satisfied with the weekend's efforts.

The CosmoreX Coffee Crew travels the furthest to come to this (equipment) event, and after packing up and leaving Sydney didnt arrive home until after 11pm. It was a big weekend & everyone felt a little lack lustre yesterday at work. We conducted our Aroma "washup" meeting this morning, fresh with ideas, and have already decided on the plan for next year.

Onwards and outwards!  Wink

A great day. Always a pleasure to help out Ofra, Renzo and the Di Bartoli crew - wonderful people and another HUGE effort to move their shop into town for the day.

Also great to catch up with Chris, Dennis, assorted CS'ers and finally meet Attilio (and see all his beautiful Diademas in one place).

Crowds & queues  are the order of the day, as long as the sun shines the crowds keep on building.

Most coffee outlets were making a valiant effort to supply coffee to the queuing masses, the only outlet I saw with no wait was Gloria Jeans!!
IMHO the best coffee of the day, was to be had in the space dedicated to the Domestic Coffee Machine Expo, Jetblack, Di Bartoli, CosmoreX & Espresso Company Australia were all doing their best to share the passion with large numbers of enthusiastic & potential Coffee Snobs.

The best shot of the day was produced by Chris from Talk Coffee, pure sweet nectar lovingly squeezed out of a very fancy & expensive looking Alex Duetto, I want one!
It's always a pleasure talking to Attilio from CosmoreX, honest sage advice from a true coffee professional.

The Quote of the day at a coffee expo, belongs to Ian Bersten from Tea-Cha " I will show how to make the best cup of tea you've ever tasted, in thirty seconds, guaranteed!"

The best hat of the day?

Always a pleasure to help out Ofra, Renzo and the Di Bartoli crew - wonderful people and another HUGE effort to move their shop into town for the day.

Thanks Greg for the warm words, it has been a real pleasure, as usual, having you passionately pouring shots again!

Thanks Thundergod for this year photography work! here are some pics from the day:
