    Nice one Gra,
I just got a new machine and now im back to square one with the milk texturing, even with the old machines i still had trouble with the art side of things. I guess with time will come improvement. I cant stand to make coffee after coffee, only to waste them so that i can practice the art, so i generaly get one latte a day to practice with.

    Hi James

I know what you mean with practice James I have been making 3 a day for the last 6 months and have just started to become consistant with being able to make more then one at a time..
All we can do is to keep on trying mate..I all so find it hard to practice and dump excepe if I have a failure with a roast and its that bad that I cant drink it ..Which does not happen very often.

    Cheers Gra..

Can you keep image size to a maximum of 640x480 pixels please mate? Anything larger can be difficult to view easily in most browsers and older monitors..... :( (and also takes up more disk space ;))

I had a laugh - heres my pic of a coffee in a coffee..

Next step is to have some nice latte art on the picture of the coffee. Or I could do another coffee in THAT coffee.

Hmm red pill or blue pill?

Heres my first one. I dont really know why I used a glass, which I presume is a bit harder. I guess I should practice with cups first.

    Hi Trizo,
They are ACF cups. *Italian made, very heavy (high thermal mass), very much a standard amongst CSers, CGers, etc

I bought mine from C 4 Coffee in NZ. *Hopefully theres a site sponsor that can get them to you more quickly.

Do note however, NOT AFC (Australian Fine China). *Looks similar but a far inferior product.

    Good luck *:)

Re: My First Art...(put up your pics here!)

Thanks for the encouragement - Im starting to get the quality consistency up. I only just bought a new machine (LaCimbali M21 Junior) about a month ago and I am still learning how to get the best out of it. After changing the tip for a smaller 4 hole one I am able to get great milk every time. While watching the WBC champion from 2008 (Stephen Morrissey), I noticed him decanting the top part of the milk from one jug to the next and then pouring the latte art. Since trying this I am amazed at how much easier it is by getting rid of that thicker foam from the top and just having the smooth runny/thick milk to pour with. And tipping the cup has helped tremendously as well.
Thanks again for the comments - Would be happy to make you a coffee if youre ever down in Tasmania - They taste even better than they look I can assure you!

Ive got a good feeling coming onů

So, this is my first picture of a coffee Ive pulled, for you Mr. Internet.

click for bigger (but blurry) version

Okay, so Im a lot happier than I should be. But theres some shape there, right? And it turns out I dont hate milk-based coffee drinks, but I do hate the weak ones I get at cafes!

    Anyway, stay tuned!

Heya peeps, though not my first art its the virgin pour from my new (well second hand new) machine. It lives up to my expectations, bit of tweaking/getting used to it and I should hopefully have things happening. *:)

And YES, it is taken in my bathroom haha! needed some decently bright lighting :P

    Naaw shucks ;-)

My only gripe with it is that the top of the heart could have been fuller rather than looking like a wave and I should have poured across the cup, not in to the handle. Im tough on myself, theres always room for improvement!

    Hey Scott,

That heart is a real killer especially for a beginner. I never could do something like that when I started.

Heres one of the better hearts Ive done so far and Ive been doing it for about 18 months now.

Remember, Practice makes perfect no matter how long youve done it for.
    Cheers. ;)

I couldnt do hearts for the life of me when I first tried.
    Rosettas I had "mastered".
Finally got the hang of it.

I really wanted to post a pic of my new cups I received as a birthday present from my MIL.
A have been thinking of getting glass cups for a couple of months now :)
The straight part at the bottom holds exactly 30ml before it flares out.
Cups look better than the art ;D

After doing a latte art course some months back I have been practicing hard to get my milk texture and pour technique just right - and its starting to pay off, can now consistently create hearts - this one of my more symmetrical efforts - next project - rosetta!! * :P

    Hey Scott

noticed you have a preference for mugs, ..

have you tried using curved bottom cups, you may find it easier to pour a rosetta.

Re: My First Art...(put up your pics here!)

Hey - yeah I have awful trouble pouring to my cups, not by choice... its all I have at the moment. I never used to drink milk based coffees so I have a lot of espresso cups, also a short macchiato fan. Ive got in to milk based drinks as winter came in to full effect. I was going to order some ACF cups they just dont have the colour that I wanted in the size that I was after. The Mrs. has a bit of a red theme in the kitchen.

When I pour, I have to really angle the cup towards myself and it ends up pouring out the back of the cup and on to the bench! >:( I figure if I can pour in to one of those, I can pour in to anything ;-)

Thanks for the tip, Ill definitely have to buy some better cup ware.

This is my first reasonable rosetta with my Ikon!!! *Still waiting for my krups baskets to arrive. *Having two lattes a day, I thought this time I would make a single shot in a smaller bowl. *I think I could still improve the milk. Thanks to the comments from here and a friendly barista at Dark Horse Espresso Bar today.
