    hi hornet

the staem valve in the via venezia is brass

if these are not lubricated they become stiff

if they become stiff, and continue to be used

    it damages the thread

sometimes the shaft needs replacing other times complete valve

    needs serviocing

Couple of tips dont use KY Jelly for lube (its water soluble) Vaselline tastes bad so try your local bearing shop for Food grade grease or lube ;)

If that fails seek out the services of a Professional to make you knob less stiff :o

In recent communications I have discovered that Urnex is using Viagra as an anti-foaming agent in their espresso machine cleaner. If you have recently cleaned your machine it could explain how the knob became stiff. If the stiffness lasts more than four hours you are advised to consult your nearest appliance repair centre.

Re: My Knob is STIFF need help

Has anyone actually done a service (Lube) on this machine?

Ive taken it apart (steam knob handle was interesting) but not sure where to put the lube?

    Cheers,

    Shane

Re: My Knob is STIFF need help

Oh you actually wanted a serious reply ;)

If it is like most valve assemblies then the area that needs lubrication is the valve stem where it goes past the gland and packing. Do not lubricate the valve face where it seals.

The pic is just for reference and placing a name to the bits.

Id say let a professional service your machine thoroughly with lubricant to rub out any stiffness. It should blow very well after a good servicing (steam that is).

    hi shane

when you dismantle the steam valve you will have a brass spindle (or valve stem as per previuos pic) with a thread on it. this is where the it needs lubing

we use a high temp food grade grease

if the thread is damaged, then a new shaft needs to be fitted

I had a laugh...Cyril & Bean- thanks for the pic

Graham, Ive taken (Broken) (will get a new one from saeco) the knob off, however the part that needs to be lubed I cant seem to get it off ( brass spindle or Valve stem OR SHOULD WE just call it a shaft & be done with it.) is there a trick to it ? (another can of worms) thanks
    Cheers,

    Shane
