    Gaggia Classic cleaning

    Hi all,

    I recently bought a second hand Gaggia classic and have pulled some alright shots from it already.

    I took a look inside at the boiler and saw quite a bit of scale buildup around the sides (Brisbane has really hard water)

    I want to take the thing apart and descale the boiler and replace all the seals.

    Is there a list of all the seals I can buy before I do this?

    Apart from pulling it apart first and looking at all the seals.

    Simple, basic, kitchen grade, citric acid powder.
    Cheap, simple and works.

    Don't use citric acid, particularly in the case of heavy scale build up.

    As WBN suggested Cafetto restore is an excellent descaler. https://www.coffeeparts.com.au/acces...store-descaler

    Agree with Yelta, I wouldn't use citric acid for a full descale. However as part of a monthly or frequent routine dilute citric acid works a treat. Best option of the lot is to do a descale with caffeto and look at water softening or filtration to eliminate the need for either option.

    As I said don't use citric acid.

    "If you do have to descale, we recommend you use a proprietory descaler such as Clean Machine Activated Descaler. One batch will normally do 2 descales for mild to moderate scale. Itís cheap and effective. For bad scale, use the lot (100g). Do not use Citric acid or supermarket descalers such as CLR. Citric acid can move plaques of scale and these cause problems elsewhere in your machine. CLR is poisonous."

    True, citric acid isn't perfect. But this is a Gaggia Classic, not a Rocket Giotto. The only location that can potentially get blocked is the Solenoid valve which is easy access and a simple fix. That's assuming the machine wasn't opened up, but the OP also indicated they were replacing the seals on everything, had the boiler already opened, so it is all stripped down and in pieces. I'll stick with my citric acid advice.
