Using the Pullman 22-24 gr basket

    Hi everyone,

After some time playing with the bottomless portafilter, I am searching for a way to use my Pullman 22-24 gr. basket with a double spouted portafilter.
Especially for the mornings, when I am a bit in a rush so I can do two at the same time and just be done with it.

Are there any portafilters that are deep enough to accommodate this? I have 2 different but the portafilter just won't lock in. This also happen with a "no brand" 21 grams basket. It is too deep.

I already have a VST 18gr. and this fits, but the dose is not enough me and my other half

Are there any possibilities out there or the maximum that can fit in an E61 portafilter is 18-20 grams?

    Cheers,
    Charlie

No idea really, except to ask if you P/F has a plastic insert like some EM 6910 handles.
If so I would throw the insert out, the new EM 6910 handles don't have them, and I just ordered one.

The 19/22 Pullman baskets fit in my P/f with the plastic insert in.

    Hi Rawill,

what plastic insert do you mean?
My portafilter is just all metal, except for the handle of course

Hey Charlie, the best shot might be to measure the depth of your basket and post it so people can compare to their own basket or pf.

What do you dose the Pullman at? I use a 20g IMS basket which fits my ECM spouted double portafilter and takes a dose of 22g comfortably with my setup. So that might be an option... or of course you could pour the shot into a jug and split by decanting into two cups after.

@ level3ninja: Oh thanks so much level3ninja, I have actually never seen that before!
No mine is alreadyin a 'natural' state

@Matt: Thanks Matt. I usually dose 24g only when we share. Once I had a shot of 24gr by myself and my eyeballs were about to shoot out!
Thanks for reporting about the IMS, my VST 18gr barely takes 18, I find it collides with the shower screen and most time does the puck suction effect...a total mess!
Yes, I could buy one of those spouted glasses and then split. I will take measurements and report back.

    Cheers,
    Charlie

    Hi Charlie,

Take a look at the Cafelat E61 portafilter. It seems to be deep enough to take a triple basket, and can also be converted from double spouted into a naked portafilter if you want. They used to be available in beanbay, but I'm not sure whether Andy is selling then anymore.

    Cheers, Dave

Just got back, see you have an answer on the plastic bits!

And lots of E61 Naked P/F available if you take a look around.
I want to know if one of those will fit my EM 6910.

Thanks Everyone for the great suggestions! It seems the cafelat may be the only solution.
The Pullman seems 20mm deep, here the image.
Sorry for the general blurriness but it has been taken with a 1.8 lens while keeping the ruler upright and I couldn't bother focusing

My Synesso double ridgeless measures about 25mm high total, bottom to top of lip.

The E61 Cafelat PF measures about 31mm internally from floor to top of lip. Heaps of room for it.

An excellent quality PF that easily doubles as naked (the only way I use it).

Only downside is that being relatively tall on some grinders grinds spill as you remove after dosing as some grinds stay inside the chute. This can be overcome by tapping to settle on the forks while grinding or dosing two smaller doses.

    Cheers

Using the Pullman 22-24 gr basket

Love these Cafelat PFs. Can't work out why they're not more commonly available in AU. Andy may still have some for you. If he doesn't then you can buy direct from the maker. Should fit the Pullman basket nicely.

From memory last time Andy updated re cafelat he said the items were removed for a stocktake.

Edit: re-reading emails- last I asked he had some on pallets but couldn't find the NS handled ones I was looking for.

So you may be in luck as your E61 style may be in stock. It can't hurt to ask either way.
