The Lelit Kate arrives in Australia next week. It's a single boiler machine with an inbuilt timed grinder. It also auto fills in steam mode so making a big batch of milk coffees is straight forward.

    Features include:

    • in built grinder with digital timer
    • boiler auto fill
    • fast heat up time (5 to 10 minutes)
    • 58mm brass group
    • pre infusion
    • shot timer
    • PID temperature adjustment
    • auto standby mode (can be turned off)

Dead keen to hear more about this machine and how it performs in comparison to say the Combi or the Mara?

Good to see some details on this - I had stumbled across it on the internet and was always curious about how it compared to the Combi.

I'm bumping this thread. I was thinking of upgrading from my Combi to a Mara when we renovate our kitchen, but I really like the idea of the Kate and it looks great.

Is the Lelit Control Centre (LCC) software upgradable?

Compared to the Lelit Combi 42TEMD, the Kate has:
    • more steam (bigger boiler)
    • auto fill boiler in steam mode - the Kate auto fills its boiler while steaming so you can just keep steaming like you can on, say, the Mara
    • 58mm group versus 57mm group (Mara has 58mm group too)
    • no requirement to re-prime the boiler after steaming. The Kate will fill its steam boiler when you go from steam mode to coffee mode
    • timed grinding (0.1 second increments) settable for single and double dose
    • preinfusion function which you can turn on/off via the LCC.

    Similarities (Kate and 42TEMD)
    • both make great coffee due to having a PID controlled boiler
    • the 42TEMD produces good steam too due the PID controlling steam mode
    • in-built conical burr grinder with micro-metric adjustment for fluffy grinds and great extractions
    • compact and clean - coffee grinds fall onto the drip tray rather than onto your bench (versus separates like the Mara + grinder)

    Compared to the Mara:
    • pretty different ... but in some ways the same ...
    • the Mara is HX allowing simultaneous brewing and steam
    • you'll need a separate grinder with the Mara
    • the Mara is temperature stable too but relies on a calibrated heat exchanger + E61 combo to get there
    • the E61 group head on the Mara gives you built in mechanical pre-infusion which can be more forgiving (say if your distribution isn't great). But you also get some pre-infusion on the Kate which is almost as good.
    • faster heat up on the combis - 10 minutes versus around 30 (for ideal temperature. You can of course go earlier if you're in "out the door asap" mode.)

While it might be possible to "flash" it, it's not made to be a DIY thing.
