Buying new domestic machine - replacing Faema E98 Compact S1

    Good afternoon fellow Coffee Snobs!

Have had the Faema for about 8 or 9 years...never skipped a beat. Took a while to tame the beast, as some of you may know, the steam wand is ferocious...tried numerous varied holed nozzles...but it all comes down to practice.

Anyway, we are looking at buying a new one...what should we buy if we don't want to go backwards in quality?

    • Budget $2000 - $3000.
    • Would love a La Cimbali M21 Junior S (similar I believe) ...any comments are appreciated. (over budget at $3600)
    • Preferences for quietish, larger water storage, dual st/steel boilers.

Maybe list: 1) what machine you have 2) what machine you would buy if you could ($2000 - $3000 budget )
Live in WA - Great Southern.

Cheers and thank you for your ideas...

I Cimbali Jnr S is essentially the same machine you have now - but with touch pad/buttons for dose/off. I have the DT/1 version ( dose /volumetric buttons + rotary pump ) and absolutely love it! Commercial grade quality on all components, and very easy to work on ( should you need to ). And quiet.
I'd be careful you don't go 'backwards' if looking at even some of the higher end domestic machines - just do your research and try some if possible at showrooms, etc.
If you really feel the need to upgrade, you should be able to comfortably get something suitable in that budget though.
Best of luck with the shopping ..!

Buying new domestic machine - replacing Faema E98 Compact S1

What aspect don't you like or want to upgrade from your current machine? I had a Faema E98 A1 (rotary pump volumetric button version of yours) and loved it. I upgraded as I was lusting after the E61 bling but the coffee was not any better really.

I tamed the steam with a 4 hole tip with 1.0mm dia holes.

    Cheers

What is it that you don't like about your current machine? As stated above it is at it's core the same as the La Cimbali Jr (One company owns the other.). Anyting wrong with it can be easily repaired for far less than your proposed budget. Additionally in my opinion you have the best model as it has no electronics in it to die and every part in it that might fail is easily replaceable at minimal cost. It is a real workhorse capable of pumping out shot after shot for decades to come. Properly maintained the machine will outlast you and be handed down to your kids.

Ok, I have to admit that my workplace had the "E61 bling" machine, it was more user friendly (in that the microfoam was idiot proof) but the frother nozzle coating started wearing off after a year and a half and just felt flimsier. I think it may have been an Isomac. Pretty machine with a much smaller water chamber. Am starting to see that we should maybe stick with our Faema!?

    nozzles Faema E98

I guess it's the froth nozzles...will attach pic of all of the nozzles we have tried...and various toothpick plug-up combinations too I might add. We have tamed the beast btw...just wanting to try something new.

I do also need to replace the water level tube as the float has gone AWOL. Tried to replace the group head seal but they sent one that didn't belong in our machine.

Very hard to recommend anyone else other than Coffee Parts.
Here's a link to some parts for your E98...

That's the wrong group, has been a glitch in the coffeeparts website for years. Had me scratching my head when I first searched years ago!

The e98 group pages are here:

    https://www.coffeeparts.com.au/cimba...enoid-operated

You might need to look around the pages for your config.

Make sure you get the conical group seal.
