Buying/Selling tip: Reply in the thread as well as via PM

To optimize your chances of a speedy response it is best to post a reply in the thread as well as sending a PM to the seller/buyer.

Great idea - a PM will usually trigger an email alert where a reply alone wont.

    A question

I'm a little lost as to how to post an ad listing my espresso machine for sale. I've been a member for a few months and posted plenty of comments, but still can't seem to find out how to list it.
    Apologies for my ignorance.

    Welcome to CS Marcus 1974!

If you scroll down to the bottom of the page you will see a little pane that shows 'posting permissions'.
Check out your status, but prior to your post above you only had 5 or less posts, which would have excluded you from starting a new 'For Sale' thread.

Read this as well to get more info:

Thanks for your help. So I take it that I need to have posted more than 5 times in order to be eligible to list.

Spamming replies just to increase your post count may not guarantee your item for sale will be accepted.

Upping your post count just to circumvent the rules is "not in the spirit of the game".

I see the ;-D chokki however hit and run posters are not what I come here for.
It should be a fair exchange of information between old timers and newcomers alike.

There are plenty of other places to advertise without having to engage honestly with other people. ;-p

The contributors to the spammed threads rarely get value added to their topic.

Hi mick00 and welcome to CS.

You're WTB ad goes in it's own thread in the 'Coffee Hardware For Sale' sub-forum.

Have a look at the bottom of your CS page on screen, where you will see a 'Posting Permissions' window.

When you have more posts on the board, elements of your permissions will change.

Don't forget to read the site rules re selling/buying. :-D

Site sales and posting policy (the rules)

Looking forward to your participation in this great forum.....

You can tell us about your coffee world here:

For those new member that are having trouble posting that add for equipment, I also had a similar problem.
You need at least 5 post somewhere else in the forum. Just some generic replies to interesting topic will do.
Then when you go back to post in the hardware for sale the icon to create a post will not appear...... (SH###^#$)
So hit the refresh button on you browser as the cookie content has not been updated.
The Create button should then appear.
I hope I have saved a few wasted hours for the newbies.
    Sincerely
    Wayne

    Quick question:

Are you allowed to bump the thread from time to time?

There is nothing in the rules mentioning it (or I missed it) and I am hoping to avoid this rule:

    * Threads with no activity by the original poster for 3 months will be marked !!!Presumed Sold!!! and moved to the SOLD forum.

Hi bd, and welcome to CS!

not odd..... CS For Sale section is for participating members and it's simply a device to stop people using the FS section as though it were a bay on the net.

.... you know.... register, sell your gear, disappear, then pop up again when you have more gear to sell....

For genuine members who want to become part of the community it's a small (non) imposition.

    No not odd.

Site sales and posting policy (the rules)

Amongst other things, these simple rules developed over a 10 year period help stop every man his dog who is selling something on ebay from cross promoting it here. The 5 posts rule also lets the current members see what sort of community member you are. If you are only creating an account to flog something off then I suggest you just advertise it on ebay or a similar site. Forum resources are here for the CoffeeSnobs community to sell to other members.

As per the link a few posts above to the Site sales and posting policy, it does not look like you have been a member for the required 2 week minimum yet.

Probably because you hadn't posted anything after the upgrade some years back. Now that you've made some posts the database's should all be refreshed before long and you'll have the necessary permissions to post in the For Sale section.

that statement and another one from Andy in "Site sales and posting policy (the rules)":
    * Must have posted 5 messages to the forums.

sounds a bit confusing. Looks like it's "more then 5".
I posted 5 messages (not a spam) and was waiting all day for a "+ Post New Thread" button to appear, nothing
Then post 6th and it's there
Must be ">", not ">=" somewhere in the code.
Just my second crack (two cents).

You must be getting close. But remember, the policy says that you must have been a member for 'more than 2 weeks'. So tomorrow would be a good bet.

Given that 7 of your 8 posts have been in the last 8 hours, it might be an idea to hit 'refresh' (or clear cookies) on the Sale sub-forum. It may also take a day to update your status (to avoid the situation where someone just makes 5 random posts to reach the count).

I haven't used the site for a couple of years now. I did pay it forward by giving a Breville machine away. I would have thought my count threshold would be above 5. Does the count reset after a period of inactivity?

The post counter does not reset after a period of inactivity. The above was your 5th post since joining. If you use the advanced search function and search for posts by yourself you will see that your first post was made on 2nd March 2012 looking to buy a for sale item. Your next 3 posts were in your pay it forward thread, started on 2nd March, 2012, where you gave away a Breville Ikon. Your last post in that thread was made on the 17th of March 2012 with no post made since until the above one. Which brings your post total to 5. Now 6 with your new for sale ad.
