Re: Silly Coffee Flavoured Foods I have bought...

I confess.... bought these.... took weeks to put them down my neck ::)...forced myself to eat them,..it was hard work..kept trying them thinking, I paid quite a bit for these..surely I am not appreciating something in them,... I binned the last 20%,..I think because I couldnt stand the squeakiness/texture of the beans...oh and the chocolate coating phrrrt!...oh and the fact that I would find pieces of the beans a day or two later stuck in my braces (yes I said braces :-X,..2.5yrs down... 0.5yrs to go).

Would I buy them again? Nope. I have had chocolate coated beans before that were devine...these werent IMO.

    Side and back view.

    Side says:
    Whole Roasted
    Espresso Beans Crushed Into
    Rich Dark Chocolate

    Back Says:
    Socitey Rules On:
    ----------------------
    Cafe Correctness

    In Europe it is customary
    To drink your coffee while
Standing at the Bar. Never linger
Too long. Simply sip and go.
    Same applies with an espresso
Egg; If you stand there all day
Youre likely to be hen pecked
    By a hungary crowd.

Firstly Id like to applaud them on ther semi colon use in that last bit.

Secondly, it does taste like dark chocolate with finely crushed roasted beans in it.
I like it and am saving the other half for tomorrow.
Just make sure you keep your distance from those Hungarians TG! *;D
Ive been fasting for a week.
    Malnutrition must be setting in.
First thing to go is your ability to spell (Im sure I read that somewhere).
Youre licky today I shook your hand and didnt bite it.
    Im starving!!!

Just noticed a Freudian slip in the words above.
Im not going to edit it; Im saving my energy until midnight when I can eat real food again.

Ok.. off topic for a minute more then back on, I promise. I googled and found some interesting information about why the Greek Orthodox Easter is at a different time and it has to do with the old and new calendars being used to calculate Easter. From what I read,. it seems that the Greek Othodox go by the old calendar which is apparently more accurate.

Ok.. didnt mean/want the thread to turn into a religious discussion. Sorry.. just amazed that I never knew this before... *pulls head out from under a rock*.

Coffee is one of the few things you can consume at Easter, thankfully (no milk though).

    Easter banter?

Sheeze, I have bought a lot of "silly coffee things" since then although I obviously didnt post them.

Here are a couple from today:

The first is some "Expresso Coffee Drop". *

    yeah yeah, I know CSrs...
when they write eXpresso I should have dropped them and expressd outta there.

The blurry pic above reads "Nescafe Morning - Strong coffee, less milk"

How bad could strong coffee be?
(no need to answer... the phrase "own fault" comes to mind now though)

Here is the other side of the can for those that like to read the contents.

    E339. Sodium phosphate
    E501: Potassium carbonate
E473: Sucrose esters of fatty acids - Emulsifiers & Stabilisers

Youre a gamer man than I Andy.... ;)

Id probably go as far as surreptitiously picking them up and reading their blurb and contents, etc.... But then I would hurriedly put em back where I found em then leave well enough alone ;D

Seems Andy is always trawling around the asian supermarkets. Theyre an absolute goldmine for odd coffee-flavoured things.

...which is what I should have done this time, the time before and I guess from my track record, the next time too!

    Some people just never learn.

    :)

    Odd coffee indeed!

Yes, my shopping habits are pretty obvious. *I love the asian supermarkets and Indian spice stores, I really have trouble walking past one without buying something. *Some foodstuffs are good, some are shockers but you never know unless you give them a go. (I only post the coffee ones here)

Its not food but my wife has caffiene roll on for under her eyes. Its difficult to be diplomatic when asked how they look, because they still look like she has been up all night. She needs to roll it on her tounge and teach our new baby girl how to sleep longer.

I got a message from a friend who now lives in the UK, and has been on something of beer discovery odyssey across Europe since. Shes coming back to Australia for a visit in January and is bringing me some Mikkeller Beer Geek Brunch Weasel

    http://www.mikkeller.dk/index.php?id=61&beer_id=78&land=1

Unlike the coffee its based on, I actually want to drink this! I wont have it until January but Ill be sure to report back ... *

ok, so I got the beer and cracked it tonight. All I can say is WOW.

Some honey sweetness on the nose and start of each mouthful, turning to dark, deep chocolate notes and a pleasant beery bitterness, very strong flavours overall. Seriously good stuff, highly recommended. I even found a local-ish supplier!

    http://www.internationalbeershop.com.au/products.asp?product_id=1351

The brewer for Mikkeller is apparently nomad brewer. He doesnt have his own brewery and travel all over Europe making beers wherever he can get access to a brewery. Going to try some of their other beers I think.

Thats a beauty, youve got to love the way the Japanese package and label their products.

Just like some local cafes that grind the night before the morning rush

Is that some sort of squeezy satchel that looks like a can?

    Coffee Camembert

Some time ago on CS we had a thread discussing weird coffee flavoured foods and I related a cheese I had once tried that had finely ground coffee on the outer rind.

Well, I found a new one right here in Perth - check the date, there you go, not April 1. This is a camembert cheese made with coffee and vanilla bean - the proof a non-photoshopped image (no, really I swear!):

    Re: Coffee Camembert

No, but as I type I am eating slices of it on ginger and fig crispbreads. The coffee does not dominate but does give the cheese a rich flavour and darker colour. If I had not tried it I would not believe that it would work!

Hi Andy, dunno what your travel movements are like at the mo but this is currently on tap at The Local Taphouse in Darlinghurst, Sydney. Might even be worth asking the St Kilda one if theyll have it sometime soon ...

Did you patent that idea in 2006 Robusto?

Tiana just bought me this bottle of Coke after school.
    The label reads:

    Plus Coffee
    No Sugar
    Coca Cola

    "Real coffee from Brazil"

Tastes okay but my first thought was you should be knocking on their door and asking what percentage of sales you should be expecting.

It tastes like coffee, then the coke comes through and finishes in a chemical storm. I had two mouthfuls and tipped the rest out.

Been available in one form or another in the US for many years so Robusto might not have a case for royalties.

    Interesting!

I used to work for a certain large red cola manufacturer (can you guess which one???) including the production lines that made a Barista style iced coffee. No, I don't know how i sleep at night either.

Not a silly one, although it sounded like it when i first encountered it.

An elderly Russian lady in the'70's made me a dark rye bread using a recipe from WW II (when everything was in short supply). Also contained cocoa (powder) and coffee (instant). It was stunning.

I revived it (luckily I have a good "food taste memory") a few years back and when "wattgn" Woodvale ran some CS meets I made it using "Andy's double dutch cocoa" and a dark roast put through the espresso maker. After a coupe of attempts - moving to a light roast "New Guinea A" (the real '60's one, not most of the recent rubbish) I reckon nowadays it is a better dark rye than the original - better ingredients helps a lot.
