Grinder- Grunt blend of- base Malabar/Tiger Mountain laced with Mandehling, Kenya AA and Yemen....roasted individually- which I often dont do with some blends....

    Cup- Doppio Espresso...

This blend has incredible oomph and would cut through anything! Definitely not for the faint hearted. Big dark choc, Wine and Raisins....

Needs a few more days for the Malabar to outgas (roasted Sunday) a tad more but whaddya do when the the aged stuff had gone?? ;)

    Grinder:

Golden Cobra Frenzy (roast 13th December)

    Cup:

As an espresso: Fantastically interesting coffee! Im getting tomato and.....malt and molasses. Stunning, and completely different! Medium-well bodied, great acidity, and well-balanced. Its the first time in my life Ive had parsnip as a floral!

Sonny, youre some kind of bizarre genius.

As a latte: (Identity puts the group handle back and lets it warm up)

Ive dialled a notch finer on the grinder and let loose again - whoo, tiger striping. Using a double-espresso base. This is fairly mild but really tasty as an espresso. Theres a hint of citrus blossom, something like the flowers on a lime tree, and the sugars are really soft. I could drink this all day!

Either that Golden Cobra stuff was really good, or Identity is drastically overcaffeinated (as usual). ::)

Back in your box my dear! I insist overcaffeinated is a state of mind.

The frenzy is much more normal as a double-ristretto based latte, like good milk chocolate cocoa with a hint of orange and red capsicum.

Have to disagree with Identity on this one. Im finding this a little bitter for my liking, no matter how I try it. Maybe I just dont like parsnip in my coffee! ::)

Re: Whats in my grinder and cup today?

This morning, I finished the last of my complimentary Presso Blend (an unexpected bonus that came with my recent Presso order - thanks Cameron!) *Such a smooth/sweet blend with lots of caramel!

So, this afternoon, I cracked open my first ever attempt at roasting Yauco Selecto (three days old post roast). *This is such a nice bean through milk, with light chocolate & caramel at the front end, followed by dark chocolate notes (and a fruity/spice that I just cant put my finger on?!?) later in the palate.

Bugger the expense - the next time this comes up on Bean Bay, Im selling a kidney *;)

Re: Whats in my grinder and cup today?

Grinder: Random FT Kenyan roasted in a Gene Cafe
Cup: French press. Tastes like instant coffee, minus the bitterness, with a relatively strong acidity and hints of tomato. Its not terrible, but I think that I should revisit the roast profile.

As for the Golden Cobra Frenzy blend, I took it back to Melbourne and fear that it got a bit beat up. Ten days after roasting, it made for a lovely smooth, simple and sweet french press, without a hint of bitterness. Fourteen days after roasting, it didnt really pour very well as an espresso and didnt really have much nuance to it. However, it held up quite well as a relatively long extraction, which seems to be true of the other GC blends at Cordial. Either that, or the conical grinder just got better in my absence ;P The moral of the story is that flights and age are not kind to coffees designed to have a relatively short degassing period.

    Cheers,

    Luca

    At Home
In the grinder - 1/3 each of Colombian/kenyan/brasil santos + 5% indian cherry robusta roasted to about CS 8
in the cup - for the wife its a latte etc. and for me made as long black with a small amount of milk

    At Work
in the grinder - 5 bean blend from a roaster here in melb, nice blend with full flavour but a smooth finish (as best we can get fom an auto machine used by 60 staff
in the cup - for me the same as home but the rest??? I have seen people do some do wierd stuff, the worst being to add flavouring because they think the coffee will keep them awake at night :question

Im with you Lizzi, I just got done with a doppio of what my missus calls "chik magnet"

Just got back from a midweek trip to Mudgee. Was coffee-less for 4 days, and its good to be home. Got some nice wines however, especially some preservative-free reds, since my wife is sensitive to sulphites.

PccoloLatte, I feel and know your pain.

We have an automatic machine at work and they were just buying name branded coffee beans until we got them to change.
Float the suggestion of changing and sample some new blends, the output still may not be as good as a machine you are normally used to but at least you have some control over the bean type.

In my case i generated a trading name and now sell a blend i obtain from a local roaster direct, to the company i work for. I gave the staff 5 different blends to try and those that bothered to respond all settled for the same.

Now i dont cringe when i have a coffee at work but its still not as good as at home.
