;D Yes TG, thats what my brain read as well...60 millimetres! ;D
Gra...we are guessing you meant 60 millilitres!? ;)
Sorry gang its heat getting to me up here but then the glass dose measure 60mm in hight;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Had a bit of trouble getting these (the mugs) my order got mucked up and I got a lb of Black Cat Espresso Blend ::) so I drank that and then complained ;D
Then only 2 mugs arrived and so on and so on....
Anyway they came good and sent me an extra mug and also a kids cup so good come back Intelligentsia ;)
The mugs were a deleted line os very cheap $4 and $7 each and the Cappa cup and saucers are a new line and you can squeeze about 170ml in, very nice to drink our of. The Mugs I use for pour over (very think walled) bit like myself really.
Nice Redzone...have you been to any of the Intelligentsia cafes?
No not me :-[ but I did send my Wife and Son there when they went to LA last May, to pick up a few essentials ::)
Anyway they were treated like royalty (Barista serves you at your table) and all that and to top it off free coffees.
Well, I do that all the time! So, you dont need to go to LA to get treated royally! ;DOriginally Posted by 4E5958465352590D0E0D3C0 link=1249251823/57#57 date=1264012632
heres one i found for a dollar, pompeii, the 7th cup of the faces of italy collection. scuse the mobile phone quality of the photos...
i use others for drinking from as i dont want this one to go the way of the one in my avatar
but i do love those illy cups for drinking coffee from, other favs are NPs, IPAs, and of course the ubiquitous ACFs
the other is marked JYOTO fine china japan, which is japanese for Giotto i guess *::) , not the best coffee ive ever made but i just really like the colour & pattern, though not visible in the photo, the saucer *is kidney shaped.
Wow, Zane...cant believe you found an Illy cup for one dollar! :o
i couldnt believe it either, esp. when i got home and looked it up... :D :)
i spent half an hour looking around the store convinced that there must be more items in the set id missed.
i had been thinking of the illys as something i wanted to check out, (any cup based on an exhaustive technical brief by a dedicated company like illy must be interesting) and the week before id found a near complete set of Ang Dus "china" missing just one saucer in the same shop! those are quite collectable too, but im happy to use them... this one, no
Pompei, the 7th cup, was apparently never sold but given away with certain packs of illy coffee, so i guess to someone it was just a novelty item.
James Hoffmann had a piece on cups where he called for vessels that really present an espresso beverage (as a wineglass does for vino), lamenting the current state of the art, but all in all i think the italians have pretty much done that, in that the rims of most purpose made espresso cups just reach up around the nose as you put them to your lips, gathering & accentuating the aroma, and the 70cc (or thereabouts) allows swirling to integrate the beverage and release a good whiff. they also come in a good range of shapes & weights that allow for personal heat retention preferences. the illys usually seem to cool slightly quicker than an ACF or fat rimmed nuova point, but hold enough heat not to suck it out of the expresso. and still leave that warmth in the hand when the drink is just a pleasant aftertatse
im sure theres still plenty of refinement to be done but not to say it hasnt been thought about by many many (highly caffeinated) people over time
I had started to collect mugs some years ago, but they always end up breaking.
I found these for 50 cents each at an op shop. I really like them, they make me feel cheerful, my brown tuplip nps where getting me down. :) Bonus-they just fit under a double spout.
Theyre great...I can see how theyd cheer you up! :)
scooter those illy glasses are awesome can you still get them?
I think they were first produced in 2003, snapped up, then disappeared for quite some time. *Originally Posted by 00252331213636212B440 link=1249251823/65#65 date=1274803005
Over the last couple of years they occasionally come up for sale on evilbay, or international collectors. *They are my favourite espresso ware and I have 16 of them, reserved for the day my lever is operational in the shop. :)
Sometimes they are sold as barware, ie. loose pieces/lots, and if you would like to buy the matching coffee spoons, again, they are sold separately from time to time. Six coffee spoons will cost around AU$40.00.
Boxed sets of the Illy nudes sell for much more. *Theres a boxed set of 4 available as I write for AU$415.00 and you would have to cross your fingers and hope they arrive....intact.
picked up some espresso cups when i was in Morocco a couple of months ago. I like them for their hand-made feel, theyre not even or perfect....theyre also probably painted in dodgy lead paint! :)
Oooo nice - Ill need to smarten up my soldering skills to make one of these - a Steampunk caffine transporter
luv it :D :D :D :DOriginally Posted by 2E3E3C2F38245D0 link=1249251823/68#68 date=1293604189
Found this at a "Dollar Store" in California. Cheap cups are one thing, but couldnt they have afforded the "A" and maybe someone with depth perception and a ruler to apply the graphic?
Here are some more cups of mine - some special and some not so much, but good stories anyway...
Those who know me are aware of my relationship with Malabar Gold espresso blend, the Josuma Coffee Company, and Dr. Johns. At one of the SCAA Exhibitions I attended he pulled a shot of this blend for me, and so I consumed it and didnt wash the cup, allowing the residue remind me of good times....
I have a set of four of these which my wife found in a thrift store. No identity or age, but they are simple and pretty.
I got these as part of the "Press" package at another SCAA Exhibition. They celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Colombian Coffee Federation. The decorations were chosen in a contest, designed by Colombian school children. They came in a set of two as seen here.
Finally, a bit of a joke. For those who are fans of the TV comedy show, "Saturday Night Live," you might remember part of the "news" portion stating that Sambos restaurants were going to change their name.
I picked this up in a thrift store around three years ago, long after the restaurant chain went out of business. Back in 1972 or so my wife and I were on a late night road trip from Northern California to Southern California - a 6 hour drive. I was a college student at the time and had hair down to mid-back and a full beard. We stopped at a Sambos in the Central *Valley, a farming region, quite conservative. It was around 11PM or so, and there was one waitress and two gentleman at the breakfast bar. We sat well away from them, for their privacy as well as ours. We sat there for a good long time and was refused service so we left. Idiots - we could have been Manson followers for all they knew. Well, I am still here, they are out of business, and I have one of their cups.
Whoops! Forgot these! I received two of each of these designs (for a set of four) as a thank you gift from a client. They were made by Mitterteich in Germany for "Francis Francis!" and designed by Ron Anderson.
Theyre lovely :)
A new addition to my cup collection 220ml ACF they make all my other cups obsolete ;D Great for doing art and lovely to drink from ;)
Our pourover setup - taking shape, with Villeroy and Boch "Flow" cups and saucers.
Very nice cups Gra, I have exactly the same in black. :)Originally Posted by 7A4F5C3D0 link=1249251823/77#77 date=1298355005
Im hoping to add to this thread in a little over a month. I have my fingers crossed that my OHs parents will bring me back some Terra Keramik espresso cups and mugs from Switzerland. :D
Recently received my Rockinghams* :D
after much searching for glass espresso cups, I just took possession of a set of 6. They look great, especially when being poured into.
I do like glass cups.
My collection of ACFs grow...
after seeing this thread i was inspired to start looking for some nice cups - its fun!
Just thought id share what I recently picked up..
2 x Vitrosax Italy Chrome handle glasses
2 x Rockingham Espresso Cups
2 x Mikasa Cups
I bought these at 2 different opp shops for a grand total of - $5!* ;D Just need to find saucers to match...anyone got some spares to suit the rockinghams?* *;)
My favourite.* A 20 year old Guinness mug from Dublin.* I cant drink my morning cuppa out of anything else...
Seems this has become a bit of a photo thread, but I have a few questions to ask. In your opinions, if I were to get a basic set, what sizes would I want?
Of course Ill grab a set of tulip espressos, but which size is good for latte/long black/cappuccino? Also, do you guys think there is a superior cup shape for creating latte art?
Ideally I just want one set for all coffees, and never realized just how expensive they are so I want to make an informed purchase
Currently drinking out of a cocktail shot measure and a random $2 mug.
Just wondering if anyone has any experience with using dual wall glass cups?
Like these: http://www.avancer.com.au/geminus-do...afe-latte.html
Interested to know how well they hold their heat, and how well insulated they are (i.e. cool enough to hold)
I have some double walled glass cups that I use - cool enough to hold when filled with boiling water (hard to check temperature as you I find you need to stick a finger in/take a sip). Keeps the drink hot enough - not that I make it too hot and drink it within a few minutes of making.Originally Posted by 547F7A412C2D1E0 link=1249251823/89#89 date=1310528439
