Probably a stupid question re shot times

Hey all. I just can't seem to find the exact questions I'm after.

Does the target shot time 25-30sec always stay the same regardless of the basket size?
Single, double and triple? If so I will have to make grind courser as I go up basket size. Or does grind always stay the same and extraction time increase with basket size?
As well as all this what volume is around normal for each basket size. I understand all this stuff is a rough guide but I'm new so I like to aim for something.

25-30 seconds extraction time is the starting point for all basket sizes.

The grind size will remain roughly the same for all basket sizes.

The starting point for extraction volumes for single/double/triple are 30ml/60ml/90ml and include crema.

All of these are the suggested starting points. Adjust them as necessary for your equipment and tastes. It is recommended that you adjust one at a time so you don't end up chasing your tail.

Thanks for that, just what I needed. I am curious though how can more grinds, ( therefore thicker puck) allow more volume of liquid to pass in the same period of time?

The holes in the basket are more numerous and/or larger.

VST baskets have smaller holes in their 7g (single shot) and increasingly larger and more numerous holes as you go through their range until you get to their 22g (triple shot). Easy to see the difference by eye.

Poorer quality baskets theoretically do this as well. However they often fail to do this properly, so they need a fairly large adjustment in grinding setup when swapping baskets. "You pays your money and you takes your choice (chances).
