    Newton Espresso live on Kickstarter

For anyone that's got their eye on the Newton it went live on Kickstarter this morning. No ridiculous deals available, but there are some pre-order discounts to be had. It's going to be more expensive than the Flair, but then again it's actually quite different. Initially I was skeptical that it would find a market, but I actually think it will. It's certainly different enough to the Flair or ROK that it'll at least attract people who prefer its looks to those other two. While it's not made for easy travel the way the Flair is it's still somewhat portable by its very nature and it's certainly a more stylish piece. It's hard to say for sure, but I get the feeling it's going to be the easiest to use of those three too. You'd really need to do a side by side test to know for sure. An interesting looking coffee maker anyway, and kinda cool that's it's from this corner of the world.

I really like the aesthetics of this machine, will be interesting to see how it performs. Kickstarter backers seem to think it has legs, but they may have underestimated demand so I expect there will be delays in production. No electrical compliance requirements so shouldn't be any delays there but the level of backers on day one compared to their estimated demand reminds of the flow hive honey project from a few years ago. Pretty tempted myself...

I'd be curious to know what the shots taste like, from their video it's a ~16s pull.

I wouldn't read too much into that. At the end of the day it's a manual lever so to a certain extent the variables are up to the user.

Interesting and simple concept, but I'm worried about hot coffee drips onto the lovely pale wooden base. It will need a solid lacquer or waterproof coating!
