    Portafilter Issue?

    Hello,

I'm hoping someone can advise me about my issue with the portafilter on my Profitec Pro 500. I purchased the Pesado Portafilter which I really like but when I need to switch back to the original profitec one it now only locks in at the 4oclock position rather than the 6 position the pesado one locks at. The machine is only 8 months old and I've taken down the show screen and gasket and it doesn't yet require replacement. Is this normal?

I'd be grateful for any advice.

    Thanks,
    Lisa

Are you using the same basket and swapping it between each portafilter Lisa? If yes, then the lug geometry of the Pesado may be different to the stock version and may require a different sized group seal if you really want it to stop at the 6 pozzy. Good Luck.

Thanks for your response. Yes, I used the same basket. The profitec portafilter fit fine at first but when I went back to using it after using the Pesaso for a a few months it has gone from 6 to 4 to lock. The pesado locks at 6. Thanks

Confused - so they both originally (a few months ago), using the same basket, locked at the 6 and now one doesn't?

    G'day LisaD...

How much force are you using to lock the Pesado PF into place?
Sounds like you may have either distorted the Group Bayonet or worn it down considerably...

Yes, the Pesado fits fine and the original profitec is now at 4oclock

Hi Mal, I’m not using any force with the Pesado. It easily locks at the 6 position. The profitec portafilter seems to suddenly be loose???

    Hi Lisa
I have the same machine. Have always used the double PF with 22g VST basket.
Has always locked in between 7 & 6 o'clock position and this hasn't changed over the 2.5 yrs that I have owned it.
I don't apply a lot of pressure, as it locks in tight when coming up to pressure ( found this out early on when doing the back flush wiggle), so something definately not right for yours to have changed so much in 8 months.
Has the Pesado position also changed over time?

    Mal

Also, have you tried the single spout PF to see if does the same?

A replacement 8mm gasket I ordered arrived and once this was installed the profitec portafilter now fits correctly. The Pesado is extremely tight. So it looks like the Pesado must need more space and has squished up the original gasket???

Sounds like a great result Lisa, as eluded to, the lug geometry is different, of course the PF handle position is a minor (in the scheme of things) consideration and the head distance between the surface of the puck and the shower screen is much more important. Performing the 5 cent test on both handles should confirm if the locking position of both PFs gives you adequate (and the same) distance between puck and screen.

Thanks for all your replies. It’s a relief that nothing is wrong with the machine.
