How to Clean Rocky & Find True Zero...

AngerManagement found this really helpful Video on how to establish where the Zero Position really is, with the hopper removed from the Upper Burr Carrier.

Heres the video...

Re: Short Video on how to Setup Rocky Zero Position.

At the end of the day... Many fool them selves and or others; as they perceive they have solved the problem first.. *That was until google came along.. Yet some still can not find it.

However; you still have to know how to use it *;)

For me, I have a Mechanical and Electrical / Electronics / Computer background and a nasty disposition *;D

Thus as another CSér implied... Intelligence is gathered assessed and only once all the evidence is in; acted upon.

1: *FAQ and How tos http://www.home-barista.com/faqs-and-favorites-digest.html ( Lots of info... But only one of any number of sites around the world)

2: http://www.home-barista.com/grinders/how-to-find-grinder-true-zero-point-t3783.html

and

3: *http://www.espressomyespresso.com/

It is only after reading MULTIPLE posts and often asking WHY more than once.. Do some of the steps make perfect sense and is logical.. *However if you jump in to quick or take a short cut.. You will get caught out.

In essence... Follow point 3 above..

The chirping and different pressure points and turning the top burr; is about feeling and understanding the condition of the burr carriers, the top burr thread and last but not least where Zero might be. If you understand what and why your doing the steps in point 3 above, then the video is nothing more than a visual reference; as a chirp to me may be very different to your ears.

It is then with a sound mechanical understanding that you can make a call as to miss aligned burrs / bent spindle/ slop in the thread etc etc etc.

Knowledge is only part of the 2 + 2 = 5
Understanding the concepts and first principles; play a big part
Ability to apply the theory; is often not even considered.

Opps... That dammed truck keeps trying to knock me off my zebra crossing. Does he not realise that at my age, the bright lights and line markings are all that keeps me going.. *

PS. Also the only place I can get a good free wireless signal.. If its not locked then it must be OK... *legal.NOT.com

I tried this on Miss Lucy - it is fine. The key difference is that the Miss Lucy has an activator switch which goes for the entire duration of a dose. That is, you cant pulse the machine.

Great links and I have had hubby fine tune the rocky, but we are having performance issues. I am testing a local coffee places bean choice, I think it was not grinding well before the change. Question is how often to clean a rocky doserless? I got for Christmas and do about 2 coffees a day

For low usage such as yours, "cleaning" should be a non issue.. once every 6 months maybe.
What is more important for consistency is to ensure you "purge " out any stale grounds before you make your first brew of the day.
Like most grinders, rocky will retain a few gms of grinds even if you run it fully empty of beans, so you need to get them out if they have been in there for a hour or more.
..Oh, and dont leave beans in the hopper after you have finished brewing for the day...they go stale quicker in there.
