    Keep or replace Compak K6

    Hi CS'ers,

I am contemplating replacing my Compak K6 with the MACAP M4d. Nothing wrong with the Compak, just feel like a change. Is my plan a step up, down, or sideway? Would love to hear your opinion.

A bit of a sideways move I'd say. The Compak has a slightly larger flat burr set but not sure if it will grind faster. I imagine the main advantage of the Macap would be doserless and timed grind. I doubt there will be any difference in the cup.

    Hello cmtran

The M4d is single doser and that could be a step up, if it is important for you and it's what your after, but the k6 has bigger burrs - 64 mm vs 58 mm on the M4d- my compak K6 grinds 21 grams in 8 seconds. So it could even be a step backwards if speed is important.

The M4D is a pretty swift grinder in its own right...
Less than 10 Seconds for a double being often quoted.

Thank you all for the replies. I timed 20 gram grind this morning and it took 19 seconds on the K6, love to have a timed grind feature too. So for me, it would seem to be a step up albeit a minor one, and I stumbled onto a coffee retailer with their M4D offering at around $200 discount on the current going rate. Perfect timing perhaps?

Are there any sponsors here with a M4D at those prices? ;D

[QUOTE=cmtran;623502]. 'I timed 20 gram grind this morning and it took 19 seconds on the K6'

.....that grind speed is way off spec. Could be burrs need replacing and if that is the issue would have quite an impact on grind quality.
The M4D timed grind feature is very handy. It's starting to sound like a step up.
Had a look at the macap spec and agree that 'the M4D is a pretty swift grinder'.
Just for the info : my Compak Silencio K6 had new burrs installed 6 months ago and in 8 - 9 sec. 21 gr very fine grind.
I just wish it was a single doser. Lazio-

Would have thought it was quicker than that, thats about K3 speeds. My E6 does 20grams in 5 seconds for espresso

Why not use the quote form at the bottom of the page to request a quote from all sponsors, rather than hope that they each read every thread? Just sayin.

ended up buying the Eureka Atom instead, a big step up from my Compak K6 in many ways. Thanks all for your guidance
