Never seen or heard of them, but noticed that in his video he mentions conical burrs but specs have flat burrs. Also not a fan of the large rotary power switch (a-la Mazzer) when you need to add half a second for example. I prefer a push-button or better still, a portafilter button.

    Decent Grinder

I don’t think they’re actually available yet (??). They weren’t the last time I looked on their website. I’m sure they would be fine. They use the Chinese made ‘copy’ of a Mazzer grinder. Interestingly they come from the same factory that is part owned by Mazzer I believe or makes parts for them or something, so they are very similar and by all accounts are good quality. If you were to buy the whole package with the scale it’s probably a pretty cool set up, but there’s lots of other options out there in this price range that do an excellent job.

Decent Espresso Machines (DE1) - Any thoughts?

"We're almost finished developing our Decent Grinder https://decentespresso.com/pro_grinder where we take a good quality pro grinder made by someone else (a Chinese company owned by Mahlkonig) and modify it so that you can see the weight as you're grinding."

Ah right Mahlkonig, not Mazzer. I think the Chinese grinder is still probably closer in size and function to something like a Super Jolly than it is to something from the current Mahlkonig range. They’re sold on AliExpress and eBay under a couple of different names like ‘Tontile Grinder’ and I think R600 or something.

I was thinking for just over 1,000 Aussie dollars I would like to buy something like the Mahlkoning Forte which weighs your dose if desired, then I heard him say The Decent were a conical burr setup which pricked my interest. Maybe he just made a mistake on his video?

    Cheers.

Big Daddy, why don't you just post in the Decent Espresso thread or PM? They post almost every second day so I am sure you will promptly get an accurate response

Yeah, no problems 338, will go onto the Decent website and ask directly...Don't want to digress the current conversation on the DE1 thread...But am also happy to see on this thread if anyone has had any experience with the grinder yet or has alternative comparable suggestions.

    Cheers.

Hi Bigdaddy, didn't mean to stifle conversation. Just the fact it isn't available for a month probably means most accurate info will come from the horses mouth. With the amount Decent has on at the moment I would blame them for not being on top of getting info for the grinder into the public domain.

I wouldn’t hesitate to post a quick question on the DE1 thread. John is quite happy to answer questions about any product and has done so about the grinder in the past.

    Hi 338,

I didn't think you were stifling the conversation at all, in fact I think you were adding to it and you were also being helpful....And I didn't realise it was still a month away from being released...Thanks for that...

    Hi Leroy,

I do think John is very straight forward in his replies...I have posted a couple of questions on the thread now...

    Cheers.

In a bunch of scenarios it's handy to be able trigger the grinding via a bump of a switch with the portafilter and then timer/weight based then automatically switches it off.
    Particularly useful in non-home situations.

I get the concept on their website where they say it's the low tech option to monitor with your eyes and switch it off manually but it's also really helpful to have the machines working for us...

Anyhoo, will be interesting to see how the end product develops.

    Hi Matt,

I agree...I think it would be handy to be able to have a timer plus some type of manual switch to be able to "bump it" if required on this grinder. Given the amount of things they have on their plate ATM with the DE1 swinging into production, may be that plus the option of built in scales would be a good thing for them to look at developing later on...

I do like his idea of "increasing the quality of grinder to a Mahlkonig K30 level" ...Looks like it will be a nice grinder.

    Cheers.

It looks like a Hey Cafe which has been around for many years. Certainly not comparable with a Mazzer.

HB Exile your comment about it being a Hey Cafe rang a bell, I remember Decent posting that.

BigDaddy here is a post which mentions that and has some more Decent Grinder info - Decent Espresso grinder

I see on the Decent facebook page the plans are to integrate bluetooth technology of the scales grinder and DE1 and integrate it all using the tablet to control things (all my words but you get the gist)...Have a look and you'll see what I mean...Very interesting in my book.

Thanks for the link 338 I'll look at that...

I've actually cut and pasted questions on the espresso thread and put them onto the thread in your link.

    Cheers.
