    Excel RoastMonitor Spreadsheet/Chart

    Hi,

Attached is an Excel spreadsheet/charting tool you can use for your downloaded RoastMonitor .csv data. *Instructions are contained in the spreadsheet.

My humble thanks goes to NewToEspresso for the original spreadsheets that Ive modified slightly to hopefully suit most CSers roast profiles and data needs.

If you have any improvements, please feel free to make them and upload your version *;)

(Whilst it is possible to have the events automatically noted on the datapoints, it also puts a zero at every other datapoint making the chart unreadably messy. So for simplicity graphic boxes and arrow connectors have been used instead.)

    Best regards,
    Intellidepth

    Gday Id,

Just ZIP the file with WinZip or similar and then attach that file. Should work fine, :)

Thanks mate - great setup and it works well...how do you cut and paste the chart into say Paint so you can then upload it to Coffeesnobs threads?

Easy to do if you have Microsoft Office Oz and not just Excel....

In MS Office you should have an image utility called "Microsoft Photo Editor". When you have created the Excel Chart and saved it, etc just highlight/select the Chart and hit the "Copy" Button on the Toolbar.

Open MS Photo Editor and then select "New" from the File Menu and adjust the Image Properties in the small panel that appears, e.g. Image Type - True Colour; Resolution - 96dpi (your monitors resolution); Width and Height - 640 x 480 Pixels; and then hit the OK Button.

Paste the copied Chart into the new image space, adjust the size if necessary but its usually best to leave the pasted image at the original 100% size unless its bigger than the W x H size selected above in which case it would be better to resize this to 800 x 600 Pixels or whatever and then paste the Chart into the larger space.

Once youve got the Chart pasted into the image space, just save it as a JPG file and then resize if needed and its ready to be uploaded into your next CS post. If you have more sophisticated image manipulation tools at your disposal and youre comfortable using them, youd probably be better off using them otherwise MS Photo Editor does an OK job.

    Cheers mate :),
    Mal.

cheers Mal - I couldnt find that program..so i went about it the long way by copying the image into MS Paint and then saving that...then opening the file from its folder and it opens automatically with MS Office Picture Manager and then resizing in that for web pages...and here it is

    Re: Excel RoastMonitor Spreadsheet/Chart

Sorry guys, Ive been so excited with my new Super Leva coffee machine I havent dropped back into this thread.

    My take on this is:

    1) Copy chart from Excel
    2) Open MS Office Picture Manager and paste it
    3) Click on it to select it
    4) Look at your task pane on the right-hand side - gives you all the options you want to simply export it to a size suited for CS.

My initial suggestion is to export it as a JPG, and keep its size to either Web Large or Web Small. Of course, you can customise every size/export option, for those who are into that sort of stuff...

    Hi guys,

I dont actually have the CS RoastMonitor ware -- can someone tell me whats being stored in the 3rd column? It doesnt seem to be being used in the chart.

Nice work with the chart, BTW, Intellidepth -- it takes special skills to make an Excel chart look good! 8-)

    simone,

If you are refering to the events column, I think it is when the software suggests roast may be out, either too slow or to fast etc. I may be wrong about this, someone may be able to cornfirm.

You can manually input, via the interface, events like first crack, second crack etc.

    Cheers

    Re: Excel RoastMonitor Spreadsheet/Chart

Hi Simone, the third column stores labels like "Load" "First Crack" etc, activated by the user of the RoastMonitor software as the roast goes along by clicking on a button on-screen during the roast cycle. Its part of the data automatically saved by RoastMonitor.

Youre right: the chart doesnt use them, however I kept that column there as an easy reference for the user to adjust the graphic arrows to the right data point.

    Re: Excel RoastMonitor Spreadsheet/Chart

I have lots of trouble using this graph. Im confused about the columes in spread sheet 2. Especially, the one about "time converted to min". CAn someone teach me how to use it? Or this excel file is only build for the roasting sofeware? As my thermometer doesnt connect to my PC, I have to manually input my data into the spread sheet. I record my temp every minute. Also, I cant event put in where FC is and stuff like that. Can anyone teach me how to do it?

    Many thanks,

    Tony

    Re: Excel RoastMonitor Spreadsheet/Chart

Hi Tony, Ive been unwell, just noticed your post. Ill respond here in case others have the same question, and send you a PM to notify you.

For the purpose of a simple graph, not using RoastMonitor software but just inputting the basic data by hand:

    1) delete the information in columns A and C, and the formulas in D.
    2) input each minute number 1-30 down Column D.
    3) input the temperature for each minute in Column B on the same row as the corresponding minute it relates to.
    4) optional: input the event name (first crack, second crack) next to the minute it happened in Column C. This doesnt automatically appear on the graph - its just a reference point for you to go and play around with the labels on the graph later. You can then go to to the graph, and move the graphic "event" boxes and arrows around physically with your mouse to match.

    Hope this helps.

    Re: Excel RoastMonitor Spreadsheet/Chart

Following a reply to a recent post on roasting with a Hottop where I provided a sample output chart, I was asked if I could provide my version of the Excel spreadsheet, which to be honest was developed from the one posted here originally. Therefore here I provide my updated version of the Excel workbook. Unfortunately it was developed in Excel 2007 (xlsx) format, and when I tried to save it to the older (xls) version it came up with too many incompatabilities so you will need Excel 2007.

I have included a Worksheet of instructions, and it should open on that first.

    have fun

    Graham

Can someone who has this spreadsheet please attach a copy as I would like to have a squiz. I am about to purchase a Behmor and enter this wonderfully mysterious coffee roasting world. Some earlier posts of this spreadsheet looks like it could be a valuable tool for me to use.
    Thanks a lot.

    Hi BMad,

    Welcome to CoffeeSnobs

I ceased using my version of the spreadsheet, which derived its data from Andy's original CS Monitor output. CS Monitor has moved on quite a lot from those days (2009), including the ability to take a jpeg snapshot of the screen, RML programming ability, and a number of extra output columns, which basically made the spreadsheet redundant to some degree. (To use the CS Monitor you will need the meter and fit a thermocouple etc).

There is also the "Behmor Thing software", which I believe is free, and which may be something you could make use of? (An internet search should find it)

I can dig out an old version of the original workbook if you would still like it, but it would need some changes to make it work for you, and I cannot find the version for which I included instructions mentioned my post in 2009 unfortunately. (PM me if you still want it).

Thanks Graham. I will search for the Behmor software and use the spreadsheet provided by another user (forgot their name!) in this thread for the time being just to get my head around roasting. Then the plan is to get the CS software & meter happening - once I know what I am doing! BMad
