Today I roasted some of this months Bean Bay offering

KK
Saturday Night -
1 x 225g Kenya Gitwe
1 x 225g Ehtiopia Harrar Star
Last night -
2 x 225g Brazil Original Bourbon at different roast levels for blending attempt
1 x 225g India Madikeri A
roasting brew - Fat Yak Pale Ale
Tonight -
1 x 225g Java Blawan Estate WP1
1 x 225g Sumatra Sipangan Bolon
roasting beverage - Bombay Sapphire & Bitter Lemon
These are all for friends and workmates (except the Harrar thats MINE), they dont have the most critical of palates but I think the practice is useful. As mentioned earlier in the week it was pointed out that I needed to extend time between FC and SC which I have done successfully. Overall the roasts are now much more even and smell much better as they cool. Looking forward to getting into the Harrar!

Roasted 2 x 250g Sumatra Sipangan Bolon Grade 1 this week.
First time i roasted this one i pulled the roast just before SC. In the cup it was really boring. Second roast, however, went like this:
1min 45
2min 60
3min 75
4min 105
5min 126
6min 145
7min 160
8min 185
10min 191
11 min 200
First Crack 202
12min 205
13min 212
14min 215
15min 221 Second crack
Pulled roast at 222
Second day PR in a FW it was amazing! (Espresso base) Bitter sweet chocolate just punching straight through 200ml of milk. 3rd day and 4th day were just as good. 5th day flavours were not as pronounced. As an espresso it had plenty of body and a pleasently sweet, burnt chocolate aftertaste. Not much mouth feel though.
This was exciting for me as a newbie roaster because previous roasts were coming out quite baked and flat.
Cant wait for the next round!
Marnass

Melbourne Cup roasts of the day:--
600g PNG Sigri
600g Ethiopian Yirgachef
27C ambient temp today so had to watch my heat adjustments closely :-?
250g Salawesi @ rolling 2nd
250g Ethiopian Harar just on 2nd
250g PNG Kimel pb shy of 2nd
250g PNG Kimel pb rolling 2nd
I was extremely happy with the Sal as my previous experiences with anything Indonesian have not been good. The Harar was good as to be expected but the PNG got a bit out of hand...the lighter roast is not to my liking..a little bit portahouse steakish? The darker PNG on the other hand is very nice! so i ordered another 2kgs :)
Still getting used to my hottop and probably still seasoning it i would assume? Is there a ballpark figure for seasoning?
250g [s]Salawesi[/s] Sulawesi @ rolling 2nd ;)
Mal.
3 x 600gm of colombian taken 30sec into 2nd crack
SULawesi* I had a laugh
Thanks Mal! So surprised with that one, its soo not what i was expecting :)

Hi all
2kg Has Garanti roaster.
Today I burnt another 1kg of Ethiopian Guji. It got away.
The 1kg of Sumatra Mandheling Takengon Organic seemed to go OK.
The Nicaraguan High Grown Bold from last week is nice and creamy and sweet.
Mike
Running low on beans so I roasted a mixed lot of leftover beans
One roast of this mix

Today 600gm PNG Wahgi AA taken to the first sound of second crack.
Woot woot! My Gene Cafe arrived yesterday, so its with great pleasure to announce that 200g of PNG AA got a run last night.
I had a laugh, I used to read these threads and shake my head at the impatience of those who couldnt wait a few days for the degas to occur.
...now I get it *:-[ *
Nothing......... I just broke it :(
Hi all
Last night I just did 1kg of Brazil Cafezinho Bourbon in the Has Garanti.
All temps are from the multimeter TC probe inserted into the screw hole of the view window.
Roast: Drop temp 160C, temp dropped to 85C but I had left the inlet flap open. FC at 9 mins and 204C. Rolling at 210C. Ended at 19 mins and 210C. I didnt hear SC but the beans cracked in the cooler so was probably just at SC or very close to. This time I managed a reasonably flat plateau from FC to SC and a good 10 mins from FC to near SC.
Beans: look about CS10, maybe next time end a bit earlier. Nice uniform roast. Will taste mid next week.
Mike
