    Blending with Robusta

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Bit of a shortage on information on Robusta blending so time for a thread as there was a few bags of Robusta sold in last months Beanbay.

Due to only wanting a small lot of Rousta it was dog bowl roasted and the Longberry was Hottop roasted.

Just opened the first bag which was an 85/15 blend of Ethiopian Hrarrar Longberry (SC +20 sec) and Indian Robusta roasted to the start of RSC.

Currently suffering with a cold so my taste is a little off, but the blend seemed fruity and rich with a slight lingering twang after drinking. Some of the spice flavours on the Harrar were covered up by the Robusta but I will try a comparison with a straight Hrarrar I roasted at the same time. Certainly a good one but maybe tempted to dial back the Robusta to 10%.

I have had some Robusta for quite some time but never roasted it because of the small percentage Id need to add as a blend.

Im yet to figure out how to get around that.

After watching Andy doing popper roasts at wicked Sunday I am tempted to go out and grab one as a Dedicated Robusta Roaster.

Last lot was a 100g batch in a dog bowl which is a bit hard to ramp consistantly. Even with this small batch I still only used about 1/2 of the batch. Only junked $0.40 of beans but it still seems a waste ;)

Yeah, resurrecting my popper from retirement appears to be the solution for me.

I just put in 10% with the other beans and roast them together and then increase slightly if needed. To me 15% is a max with my particular blend anyway.
