    India Ethiopia 3-way

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Having picked up some new beanbay greens recently I was keen to try a blend of the following:

    India Elephant Hills
    Gambella
    Yirg SP
    (1:1:1 post-blend)

Having patiently waited a fortnight for the roasts to settle, the reveal has not disappointed! In milk it's sensational... Big billowy dark chocolate from the Indian, twangy ripe red fruit from the Gambella and some very pretty florals and yellow fruit from the Yirgacheffe. Wow! Blows many a cafe house blend I've tried clean out of the water 

Anyone else tried anything similar? 

    G'day td2...

Have blended the Gambella with the India El.Hills along with a touch of a good Indo. coffee but not with another Ethiopian. The El. Hills makes for a really great base-bean or a stand alone S.O.; very versatile bean...

Sounds like a good take on a mocha java style blend Mal

I need to get a nice Indo. Which of the BeanBay coffees do you prefer?

Decided to give the Yirg SP more of a starring role today. Upped it to 50% and dropped the India and Gambella to 25 each

Tastes even better than the first blend. Still heaps of body and base notes, but now the florals really jump out. Beautiful coffee!

Which ever Indonesian Beans Andy manages to get in for us, never had an ordinary one, ever...
If there's some Sulawesi Blue still available, you can't go wrong with that one - Better than the nicest Mandheling I've ever tried.

A good ratio to try for a first up blend would be 60% Ethiopian/Yemen with 40% of the above. If you want to preserve your Ethiopian/Yemen stash a bit, go for a 50/50 ratio of India El. Hills 'AA' or PNG Wahgi, and Ethiopian/Yemen bean plus about 30% of the Indonesian bean. Lots of ways to juggle the ratios but still get that lovely Ethiopian/Yemen hit coming through...

Cheers for the suggestions Mal! Not totally sure I've got my head around the maths in your second suggestion though. Is it 35 each of EH and Ethiopian and 30 of Indo?

Whatever new variations I try are going to have to wait until after I've done my golden bean entries though!

For example, if your batch size is 100g, then 30g of Ethiopian/Yemen with the remainder divided equally between a Base Bean and an Indonesian Bean. Not set in concrete of course, you can up the ratio of Ethiopian/Yemen to what ever you prefer but I wouldn't go below 30%...
