Starting simple - 50/50 pre blend

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hi Folks

    Im new here.

I have been in the coffee industry a long time in many capacities however I am only becoming passionate about roasting recently. I have been lucky enough to pickup a Solar 2kg roaster for a song that I have successfully installed in my garage - now coffee lab.

Im keen to see what the Solar can achieve with pre blends and am looking for some advice on beans that may roast together nicely in a 50/50 pre blend for simplicity sake.

A classic Mocha Java is an obvious start but I am interested to hear from peeps personal experience and preference.

    Cheers

Welcome tasksta, there’s no going back now!!

where to start- there are so many good options from Beanbay, but what about Colombian supremo and Brazil .

but I think most of the fun is in trying out different beans and blends. Once you start, you’re hooked...

Nice pickup on the Solar, you should get some great roasts, I have the manual version of the Solar (Torrefattore).
Volcan Galeras Especial and Sulawesi Blue will give you a tasty blend.

Awesome, how are you finding the Torrefattore? Is it the same roaster without the auto functionality? I have heard great things of the Solar and so far its looking good.
Thanks for the blend info I will ad it to my list!
    Cheers

Yes, based on the solar, it has a manual control panel with PID temp controller, air pulser for air flow, able to use 1 2 or 3 elements depending on roast size etc. I roast batches from 300g to 1800g, took a while to adjust after using a Corretto for years but I love it!!!
