Anybody had success throwing together some random blends with whatever is at hand?
I just finished a roast a totally unscientific blend of beans. My favorite blend has been a 50/50 of Indian Elephant Hills and Peru Ceja de Selva. Only had a few scraps left so threw them in together with a mix of others to make up 400g.
The blend is very roughly about:
37.5% Nicaragua Matagalpa
25% Elephant Hills AA
12.5% Ceja de Delve
12.5% Sulawesi Blue
12.5% Columbian Volcan Galeras Especial
Roasted all together in the Behmor at P2. Dropped to 50% at 1st crack. Stopped at initial signs of 2nd crack.
Looks like a mix of CS8 and CS9 so no a bad result with the eye test. Will let it sit a few days before the first tasting.
Anybody uncover a hidden gem using a random batch?
I am going to give the 50/50 India EH and Peru Ceja a go at my next roast since they are my favs at the moment.
I have done a few (bag end) blends of random beans and have had some great results.
Yeah, it's one reason I posted here. In case it works out great I have a record of it.

Shows it's a matter of taste and you really shouldn't be too influenced by others tastes. I had a particular 2 bean blend that a couple of friends tried. Both small flat whites made by the same person on the same Breville machine. One said it was nice but preferred a mellower cup. The other said it wasn't strong enough. Can't please everyone.
