Sunbeam 3800 seal gone in ~3mths?!?

    Hi all

I bought a Sunbeam 3800 in October 2008. I used it quite a bit, pulling at least 2 doubles a day and on one occasions pulling 30-40 doubles in a night (engagement party).

In mid-December the seal blew... steam and water started coming out the top of the group head. Just wondering whether this is normal - i.e. whether Im going to have to replace the seal every 3-4 months for the life of the machine?

The sunbeam machines have a strange group seal arrangement compared to other machines, I would say that its life span is definately affected by ussage, and would not last as long as other higher end machines would. The one I had would leak and the group handle would also undo itself during extraction and if not watched and held would fly off and make a heck of a mess, needless to say it didnt have its place in my kitchen for long after that.......

Ive had the seal on a 6910 last 6 months at 10 shots a day and another go in under 3 months.
There may be a bit of luck involved.
    Bad in this case.
See how the next one goes.

    Once is bad luck.
    Twice is an indication.
    Thrice is a trend.

Thanks for your replies. Ill replace the seal and see how I go; if the next one only lasts a couple of months then Ill think about having the machine looked at by a professional.

I have an EM5800 which I have had for years. I recently got a grinder and today got an unpressurized filter. Anyway for years been using ground coffee from supermarkets, I have never replaced the seal and it still doesnt leak, it would have to be 5 years old!
