    EM4800 Steam Wand Expelling Coffee

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Hey guys, just wondering if anyone knows why when i extract a shot of coffee from my Sunbeam EM4800, then proceed to steam the milk, coffee is expelled from the wand in the first few seconds i turn it on? More often than not it ends up blocking up. Grind size is normal and extraction takes around 20 seconds, where the machine does appear to struggle slightly (pump quietens to just a ticking sound).
The basket is full to the point that it leaves an imprint on the puck.

It may help to know that i use a dual-walled double shot basket.. which i hear can have detrimental effects on some machines?

It may also help to know im a noob so be gentle with me.. :P

Thanks guys i appreciate your help :)

Well it sounds to me like there is some backpressure being created during or after the extraction and some coffee liquid is being sucked up inside the machine. I would try first dropping your coffee level a bit, and secondly getting an unpressurized basket.

ok dropped the level a bit and it seems to have fixed it :)

i also bought a single shot unpressurised basket, however i can no longer get anywhere near even 20 seconds extraction. With a finer grind i get closer but the result has quite a watered taste, not strong..

perhaps i will try a double shot unpressurised basket so i can pack some more coffee in there ;)

Cheers for the help. Im learning every day :P
