Gaggia for me, without a doubt.
My Gaggia Classic has always done its job.
    Others may dissagree.
Look for a good second hand one if available.

    Hello Alan and welcome...

Keep an eye on http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?board=Sale and buy a pre-loved Silvia when one becomes available..

Breville = appliance and the Gaggia machines have an aluminium boiler which tends to look pretty nasty after a while.

Generally, you will find that the cheapest price is often accompanied by the nastiest service. If you want some training and support, you will more often than not get pretty much waht you pay for ;)

    Good luck.

My apologies for providing some advice based on experience.

Best bet is to google Gaggia. ::)

Aluminium boiler for the Gaggia is ,as already stated, a bunky idea. If you want a boiler machine for cheap go the Breville ikon, its stainless.

Then again put all the money towards as good a burr grinder you can afford and make stovetop or plunger while you save up for a coffee machine. That is once you find a source for fresh roasted beans (or do it yourself). The coffee will taste awesome.

If you are just going to put pre-ground or shop bought beans into the coffee machine you choose, save your money and buy a years supply of instant. OR just buy the cheapest of the two. ;D

My local Harvey Norman had stocked a couple of their entry models previously - I had looked at the Baby I think. Im led to believe they no longer exist? Not sure if that actually means they no longer distribute within Australia OR been bought out by another company and the brand no longer available (often the brand taking them over may rebadge their lines) OR possibly just that Harvey Norman no longer deal with them, and therefore tell you they dont exist if you say you want one, then try to sell you the Saeco Via Venezia instead : )

Speaking of no longer existing, rev210 mentions the Breville Ikon with its stainless boiler... is the Ikon still a current model? I seem to see a lot of the 800 series, but not the Ikon, which I understand is much better.

You can get gaggias in a lot of places but I think you should do what was suggested already and buy a pre-loved silvia.

OR if you want something new - try out a Breville Cafe Roma for less then 200 dollars. My mate has one at his apartment and its a great little machine! Im a tiny bit jealous that I didnt get one as my first machine and instead bought a sunbeam EM5800 (several years ago now). Make sure you get a grinder aswell though and unpressurised baskets.

Even if you cant afford a great grinder - get a Sunbeam EM0480 and a Breville or Gaggia = <500 all together. :)

    ;D Nice Try!

Why not spend a tiny bit more with a site sponsor and get a great machine like a Lelit PL041? *So much more for only a bit extra! *
