Rancillio Z11 mains pressure or pump

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
I was wondering if anyone can help. I have a Z11 3 group I am using at home (converted to less than 10amps). I currently run it with an external pump drawing from a tank. I have herd that some people plumb some of the Rancilios straight to the mains using no pump. Just wondering if this would work or does anyone have any advice on this matter? Cheers Ian

    Hi coobs,

Normal mains pressure is about 5-6 Bars (at most).... in many areas of Australia *it can be as low as 3.5 to 4 Bars..... and varies with usage!

As you need a consistent 9 Bars of pressure to correctly extract the espresso... you will always need to boost the mains pressure with a pump. To overcome fluctuating mains pressure it is also a good idea to have a pressure regulator before the pump.

Direct plumbing enables pre-infusion on some machines so there is a benefit with having it plumbed in... but not having to use a pump is not a benefit!

    Coobs:

Unfortunately does not work, agree with JavaB, you need 9 to 10 bars of pressure constantly for the coffee to be structured properly

Thanks guys, yeah I guess I should have realised that if I had thought about it a bit more myself. I have a couple of pumps so no dramas I shall keep using them. I have an even older Z9 2 group that I use with a pump also.

Thanks again for the advice. Cheers Ian
