Newly Manufactured Commercial Lever Group Machines

    Hey Folks,

Putting this question out to the wisdom of the crowds...

Shanny and me are looking for a brand-spanking-new lever group machine, but after talking to a Faema rep, it sounds like the Italians cant be bothered making them anymore. Faema now only makes one batch a year that goes out to Africa -- and they wont service any special orders. But they still make the classic E61 so I suppose they are history-proofed.

We have tried the Fiorenzato Piazza San Marco which is a very nice machine to use (except for the non-locking steam tap). (http://www.fiorenzato.com.au/piazza.html). Nice and shiny but not too overstated, and by no means as ugly as the Rancilio Classe 6 LE (http://www.rancilio.it/rancilio/prod_version.jsp?id_language=2&id_version=28&id_mo del=20&id_category=2) or the La San Marco Leva (http://www.lasanmarco.it/jsps/techlist.jsp?out=null&node=SANM00000532&type=null& language=E)

Astoria seem to manufacture one that has more character, the Rapallo AL2 (http://www.astoriaespresso.com/rapallo.asp) but I have yet to confirm if I can get a local supplier.

The Uber-Awesome lever group option would of course have to be the Mirage Idrocompresso (http://www.keesvanderwesten.com/mirage-idrocompresso.html) which Tobys Estate apparently have working in one of their Sydney stores.

So I was hoping to get some thoughts, experiences and recommendations from the fellow snobbers who may have used any of these (or other) new lever group machines.

Check out Javaphiles pics here http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?num=1240445923 I think there was a few levers in them but my download speed would take to long to search again. The Mirage for looks alone is worth the $$ btw

I know Barazi can order the Elliesse as a lever. Never used the lever one but the regular pump model is a decent machine.

A few years back when I was with Barazi, we brought one of this machines into Australia but not many people want it. I think because Australia has always been used to the volumetric dosage.

Thats it, a customer enquired about one a few years back and Chris at Barazi said he could still bring one in. Customer wasnt a fan of the styling though.

Local Gruppo Izzo distributor is Paradiso Coffee Roasters in Clayton if thats any help.
Ive said it before and I will say it again :) A good place for lever information is the lever Forum over on HB, They love their levers over there.
From What Ive read there is probably only a couple of manufacturers of commercial lever groups so machines tend to share components, some if not all use HXs, lots of research to delve into I think.
Anyway hows the Boema you stole going :)

Beat me to the punch. Ive used the Pompei in Chris shop. 53mm handles. Unconventional steam tap (joystick that doesnt lock in to place). Get in to contact with Chris @ Paradiso and find out.

Ponte Vechio also manufacture a range of lever club machines that are rated quite well. They have a new dual lever model:

The Boema is going fabulous! Although Shanny has multiple burns on her arms, and the machine leaks all over the place. But its still a beauty to use and we cant bring ourselves to put the Promac back into action.

Thanks for all the response to our query, we now have plenty of leads to follow through.
