Bezzera Ellisse DE - Any Tweakifications?

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hello all CSers!

After dabbling with several domestic machines, Ive finally got my hands on an almost new (18 months old and only about 5kg of coffee) Bezzera Ellisse DE single group. Im after any ideas on what can be done, and how to do it, to help it reach its maximum potential.

Ill chuck up some pics tomorrow.

    Thanks,

    Scotty

Nice machine. A 5l boiler will give you plenty of stream. Bezzeras perform well and the stainless steel steam arm is nice.

Maybe contact Barazi for any advise on setting up this machine.

    Cheers,

    Mark.

    Ok,

Here are some pics as promised:

Is this the screw to adjust the brew pressure?

What is this for? See below for close-up

    Thanks for any input.

    Hi Scotty, nice machine.

Picture numbrer 6 adjustment for the pump.
Picture 7 and 8 adjustment for hot water, basically hot water come from the boiler at over 100 C this allow you to infuse cold water so when hot water come out will not splash.

All the diagrams for this machine or any Bezzera Machine are at www.barazi.com.au are in pdf

    Any question let me know.

Very nice find there. Interesting that the steam wand is the chromed copper version, rather than the new stainless steel wand.

Id get it running and see how you like the coffee before contemplating any adjustments. The easiest adjustment is to the steam pressure, which also affects the brew temperature and idling temperature. Its common for he steam pressure to be set at between 0.9 and 1.1 bar.

    Cheers,

    Mark.

Wow, youve got a sharp eye Mark!

Im quite chuffed with this machine. I bought it originally with the intention of selling it immediately at a profit, but Ive fallen in love with it! I only paid $775.00 on ebay, but I cant bear the thought of selling it now! :(

Thats a great price. Especially as it looks to be in great condition. Also a pretty rare find. Not many places buy single group commercials.

Well, maybe not such a good buy after all. The pump is seized :(. The motor is fine, but the top bearing in the pump is completely rusted solid...

$200. I wish I didnt have to spend.

Still its $200 on a $4000 machine. Once youve spent it you forget it and enjoy the coffee. Be wary of replacing the pump though. The new pumps on Berrera are made in Italy and may have metric or BSP threads, whereas the Procon pumps have NPT threads, so a set of adaptor nuts may be required if not replacing with the same pump... This is only a maybe... not a definite. But it can be annoying to get a new part only to find it doesnt fit properly.

    Cheers,

    Mark.

Ive ordered a new pump. Should be up and running this weekend. Are there any special steps to follow to prime the pump and an empty boiler?

Im running from a tank, so I dont have much pressure.

    Thanks,

    Scotty
