    Arrow Troubleshooting NS Appia II

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Need some help troubleshooting Nuova Simonelli Appia II.

    Appreciate any help / thoughts.

I'm off to consult the manual.

    Machine history
Previous owner had used machine on tank water for 3 months. Was not on filtered water.

Have used with filtered water since I've had it but time for a check of probes. Has worked fine over previous 6 weeks (Saturdays only)

    problem description
Last shot of the day no flow. Instead of flow seems to be flashing steam through the group. Both groups doing the same.

Can hear the pump going but I suspect it's not drawing water.

May not be filling as level drop seems to have kicked in to stop the element heating. Yay! For preventing destruction.

Power off / on. Pump runs and then goes to a diag mode of sorts. That is... all lights on and flashing manual/stop on each group

Video of the flashing group lights...

Pointless pic of power light on and boiler pressure dropping down...

    Lightbulb read the manual

Two error options listed in manual...

the continuous manual/STOP flashing on both groups points me to LEVEL ERROR

Display and Indications:DOSAGE ERROR Continuous key flash- ing and dispensing key lit without flashing.
Cause: If the doser doesn’t send out its set commands within the first three sec- onds from delivery onset.
Solution: Turn the machine off for at least 5 sec. and then switch it on again.

Display and Indications: LEVEL ERROR Continuous key flashing on both groups.
Cause: If within 90 sec. from onset, with pump inserted dur- ing the levelling, at 180 sec., if the level has not been re-established.
Solution: Turn the machine off for at least 5 sec. and then switch it on again.

It wants to fill the boiler and as the boiler has not filled within an expected time, it goes to an error.

As you got steam only from the groups before this, that would indicate that there is no water flow through the heat exchangers as well which would point to a lack of flow at a point that is common to the heat exchangers and the boiler fill piping.

Looks like you're drawing from a tank, possibly there's an airlock before the pump however this will usually yield a screeching sound from the pump. You can try lifting the water supply up a metre or so above the machine, switching it on and seeing if it will draw. Sometimes gravity is enough to get the pump going again.

If no success, remove the pump hoses, sometimes on the pump inlet fitting there is a mesh screen for particulate filtering, it might be blocked. You can run a hose from the outlet of the pump to a container and switch the machine on and see if the pump is actually working.

If still no luck, just progress through the piping both before and after the pump, you should eventually find a blockage or something amiss.

    Troubleshooting NS Appia II

    Hi noidle

Thank you for your reply and the troubleshooting steps. Much appreciated.

Was running off 20L water tank up to when flow stopped. Tried raising up the tank at the venue but will give it another go now at home.

Will check hoses like you suggested.

Hoping a dash of Galway Pipe port will also helps things along
