Using AeroPress and a new grinder - Taste is bitter
I've been using AeroPress for about 2 years now, without really getting involved in recipes, beans to water ratio and timing it all.
Lately, I have gone a bit in depth with getting freshly roasted beans and storing them correctly.
I got more into AeroPress recipes and trying to get consistent results.
I even got a gooseneck kettle with a thermometer.
Here's what changed:
1. I had an Aldi Sterling grinder (before I knew about the importance of good grinders).
2. Last week I bought a new Breville Smart Grinder Pro for $160 from BingLee.
3. With the BSMG I get bitter taste coffee. With the Aldi grinder that I now use in the office, I get a bit better results, same beans (medium roast) as I use at home and same recipe.
I use 18g beans and 200ml water at 85deg and sometimes at 80deg with paper filter.
I pour 36g of water and stir them to get them saturated and let it sit for 30 seconds.
I then pour the rest of the water, stir a bit more and then press it with the AeroPress.
So I think this is something to do with the BSMG grinder that I'm not getting right, or is it something else.
I hope someone here can guide me to try different ways to avoid that bitter taste.
