    Gaggia Classic - Dispensing Water

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
When I dispense water from my steam wand with the knob turned to full ON I still get water from the grouphead. This was a replacement for my Baby Dose which has the same internals and I never had this problem.

This has been happening since new, I just thought it was a quirk but it is very annoying because water dribbles from the wand and blasts out the grouphead! I dont want to use the water from the grouphead because it is not always clean.

Is this normal for a Classic if not im asking for a refund and getting a Silvia.

My $30 carezza at work doesnt even do this!! >:(

I havent own a Classic but have owned a Baby and no, it didnt leak water from the grouphead when dispensing hot water. What you are descirbing is almost certainly a fault and ounds like it could be a valve problem.

Doubt if you will get a refund if youve already been using it for a while

Well this was a replacement for a Baby Dose which went in for repairs (Steam wand is only held in by a plastic clip and came out and wouldnt go back in) and after 3 weeks of it not coming back the importer replaced it with the classic I wanted.

I have had problems with the importers products before and they should be looking after me after all one of their BBQs grill plates blew up in my face not just once but the replacement they sent blew up also! Shame I didnt know GAGGIA is another one of the brands they import.

    Hmmmmmm....

You got a machine which you know nothing about ..ie history wise.

Im thinking you should replace your steam and brew thermostat.

Very very easy to do..cost is like 10-15 dollars. Simple replacement.

I cant say for sure but ive done that in the past to make sure i was

working with non-faulty parts in that area.

You can get those parts easy. If you need help ill take pictures for you

    showing how to do it.

I assume you have descaled the machine. You never know but something

funky could be going on. Make sure you backflush and clean out your

Solenoid valve as well. It doesnt make sense that water would come out

the group while opening your steam valve to full. This is why im saying to

replace those two parts. WHo knows it could be that or not...

This might also be some odd wiring setup. I can take pics of my internal

wiring and you can look at yours and see if it matches up...ie colours etc.

    :)

Try and descale and backflush first. Then do thermostat replacements.

This was a brand new machine, correct?

If so, demand a replacement in an unopened carton. If not, it sounds like they have replaced one dodgy product with another. You can try to get your money back (good luck) but if not, cut your losses and give them the flick.

Let the suppliers know they will no longer have your business. In these troubled economic times, I think you might get their attention. If they dont care, then good riddance. Based on what you described about your experience with them, I wouldnt waste any more of my time and money on them.

Try the fixes that pravspresso suggests but I recommend taking it to one of the CS sponsors if you dont feel confident with playing with the Gaggia innards

Sounds like either the 3-way valve is faulty (or clogged), or the solenoid that positions the valve is defective. *The 3-way valve should only permit flow through the grouphead when the brew switch is flipped. *Yours sounds like it is not closing completely.

On a Silvia, it is relatively easy to disassemble for checking and cleaning the valve. *Probably the Classic is similar, but I dont have any direct experience.
