    EM6910R - Paint coming off

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hi,

The red paint is coming off the top LH corner of my 12month old em6910R.

Would this be covered under warranty, anyone else have issues?

    Cheers.

I have seen this on almost every RED unit that I have come into contact with..

Usually, on discussions with the person doing the cleaning (not always the coffee maker) it is due to cleaning products and and what other materials they use to clean :-?

The red units have the same base as the standard and after some extra work in the factory. Have the two sections painted...

I have seen one unit that was a no brainier (SB replaced the drip tray) as the paint was clearly peeling of an unprepared surface..

Call SB and ask... They will get you to take it to a service center for then to asses.. The top component will need to be replaced by them and the old may well be sent back as part of the QA process...

Re: EM6910R - Paint coming off

    Cheers for your reply.

As the cleaner of said machine, only a damp cloth (chux wipe) has ever touched the machine, no chemicals, solvents, etc.
It seems strange paint is coming off in one corner though?

I also have bubbling of the paint on the drip tray next to the sunbeam logo. This has been washed in detergent (in the dishwater).

I have the leaking drip tray issue and the leaking group head, so may be time to call Sunbeam.

    Cheers again for your reply.

Ive seen all the chrome come off the steam wand which has never had more than a wet Chux wipe it down.

Mind you, baked on milk crud cant be too good for it.

I am aware of others and also had my Collar replaced under warranty: due to the chrome plating coming off..

For me it was still chrome under, but as it was a manufacturing fault and the quality could not be 100% proven... Back it went..

No questions... A comment that there was / may have been some QA issues and that some unit got a double dip... ???

Thus the top / last layer was not bonded correctly and would come off.

Steam wand... Interesting... Some of us use a wet chucks other I see use scotch bite and other course pads to remove the baked on milk :o

My 6910 is in to have its collar replaced atm because a big piece of chrome came off. The service agent said its not very common to have it happen. Sunbeam have agreed to replace it under warranty.

Just as a quiet aside, my Sunbeam 6910 Manual says clearly under the Cleaning & Maintenance Section to "Never wash any part of the machine or accessories in the dishwasher."

I would, when talking to Sunbeam, not make any mention of putting the drip try into the dishwasher because your warranty would probably be void insofar as the drip tray and paint coming off is concerned.

    Cheers

    Mild dishwater too...
The environmentally friendly stuff with a picture of a fluffy white rabbit.
    But I digress.

No dishwasher, just dishwater. Nothing but a damp chux has ever touched the machine itself.
The paint peeling off is actually getting worse, found a spec in my milk this morning, NOT HAPPY JAN! It happens in the top LHS of the machine. It is quite hot there and this may have something to do with it coming off.

Ummm if it is made from dead rabbit, I would expect it to be eco friendly.. But not sure if it is good for paint :D

So what did SB say ?

    PS. Got any pics ?

That looks like a manufacturing defect to me...

I would be on to SB ASAP.

    An update...

Spoke to the lovely Megan from SB, yes, it is a fault.
I have been directed to take it to a service agent to look at.

What surprised me was the warranty, I thought these suckers had 2 years. Found out to my dismay that it is twelve months only.
Hats off to SB, my machine is month out of warranty, but they are still going to honour it.

Thats because in NSW theyd fall foul of Fair Trading because paint would be expected to stay on longer than 12 months.
It called the "Statutory Warranty", which is different and holds more weight than the "Manufacturers Warranty".

Sometimes that expression "you get what you pay for" works in your favour.
You didnt get what you paid for.

We have also had this problem, and had the collar replaced under warranty. After only about 7 months its starting to happen again! Only cleaning with a damp chux, and nothing seems to be wrong with the group filter. We were without our machine for 4 weeks, not looking forward to doing that again!! *>:(
