    From Krups to...????

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Hi all, (first post) I though I was a coffee snob until I met one. I realise now that after all these years, my daily espresso could be vastly improved. I have been using a Krups (cant remember the model) for the last 8 years and a Breville and Coffee grinder. I intend to use KRudds money to upgrade.

Was thinking of just purchasing a grinder but though... what the heck, upgrade the lot. Have been thinking about a Silvia and Rocky combo. Have never seen them in real life.

I have an expresso at least one a day and make my wife a cappuccino at the same time. I also live in rural NSW and was wanting advice on the importance of purchasing the equipment from the store and getting it set up for how you intend to use it.

    Thanks

Thanks for that Thundergod thankfully I am still able to modify and can change my novice spelling mistakes...I also had to look up cappuccino!!

If you want to become a coffee snob too the first thing you need to do is learn to say "espresso". ;)

The Silvia / Rocky combo is very popular.
However I still suggest you contact the site sponsors (youll find an email address at the bottom left of the screen) with your maximum budget and requirements and theyll give you some good suggestions.

Hi there, i recently upgraded from my basic 4 year old krups to a SB 0480/6910 combo. Im glad I took the plunge!

I didnt realize just how bad the coffee was that I used to make. Now I find im into the habit of checking out every cafes grinder equipment, and also watching their tamping technique!

Depending on $$ try a di Longhi automatic - say a Magnifica, around $1600. Use a GOOD coffee, and experiment with them until you find a blend or blends that suit you.

I live in a remote area and use di Bella coffeee x Brisbane, and service is about 7 days from order. Living in a remote area you cannot get too fancy with equipment. Has to be reliable, and work.

You need to enjoy the coffeee.........not spend eons fiddling around before the coffee is ready

    Ohh.... 2mcm bit harsh ;)

1: Automatics have a place... Limited but they do... Marketed as a one button option for great coffee :o ... Sorry.. Not on in my books..

2: Service and maintenance is a must. If under a service contract with good backup etc then fine :-/

If I was out of the metro area... Manual type system only.. And at $1600 you can get a good reliable system, grinder and a few other bits into the bargain. Come to think of it... Same goes for metro.

That being said... Some have bought and loved them... :-?

I think I am definitely leaning towards a sylvia. Brass boiler and top of the line for the bottom end of the market. Have considered the Gaggia classic, but think the extra$$ spent on the sylvia would be a worthwhile investment.

Keep an eye on the equipment for sale section Boofy Silvias come up regularly as people upgrade to HX, probably pick one up for around $600ish. A decent grinder from $300 upwards and your in business!! ;)

Thanks for everyones advice. I decided to purchase new Sylvia from jetblackexpresso (2yr warranty). Dropped into their shop when I was last in Sydney going to the zoo with the fam. I also picked up one of those Cunil Tranquillo grinders from evil bay and all is looking good.
Any tips on setting up the new Sylvia??
