    Another Gaggia Question

    Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hello People

    So I have cleaned my Gaggia Classic and my grinder has arrived. I am getting a nice fine grind and am able to do a nice even tamp. However these is still one problem, the flow is way too fast and the resulting shot is bitter and the crema seems thin. I had a look around the forum and saw that the Classic has a high factory pump pressure setting, could this be at fault here?

    Re: Another Gaggia Question

    Outbreak:

    Could be the following:
    * Grinder still to coarse
    * Need a better tamper
    * Not putting enough coffee in the basket
    * The coffee is bit to old

    I will use the 30 sec 30 ml rule of extraction as an indicator.

    Good luck

    Re: Another Gaggia Question

    - The grind is almost like powder it seems like the grinder is as far as it can go without the burrs touching
    - I have a bumper tamper that fairly heavy and seems like good quality
    - I will try and put more coffee in the basket.
    - The coffee was roasted 7 days ago.

    I will test the 30 sec for 30ml rule, thanks for you help!

    Re: Another Gaggia Question

    I just went and put around 17g of grinds in the portafiller for a double shot and I am not sure what I did differently, but the shot pulled a lot slower and the difference in taste is amazing!! The shot looked like guinness just after it has been poured. I think I just pulled my first proper shot! Around 25 seconds for the double shot, I was going to take a picture but it tasted too good.
