    Synesso double basket - 14g or 18g?

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
I want to get a Synesso double basket for my Silvia but am confused as to which is actually the double.

    I understand Synesso make a 14g double, 18g triple and a 21g triple.

Ive read a few threads which talk about updosing the Synesso double to 18 or more grams. *That seems to imply buying the 14g double and updosing it. *Then Ive read other threads implying the 18g triple is more of a double.

So what is the prevailing wisdom about which Synesso basket makes the best double? *(and which will fit in my Sylvia portafiller)

    Cheers

    Steven

When I had my Silvia I used a 14g ridgeless Synesso basket and updosed and it was great, I think the 18g will fit in Silvia pf but 21g would need a naked pf.
If you purchase the basket get a stronger pf spring otherwise the ridgelesss basket comes out when emptying the puck!

    Hi steven.
I have just weighed out the amount of beans that I normally use to dose each of my double filter baskets.
The standard double supplied with Silvia holds 16g. I believe that this basket is actually rated as 12g.
The 14 g double from Coffee Parts (Part No. 521994) and listed for Silvia holds 20g.
The genuine 58mm Synesso double supplied by Pullman tampers holds 24g.
I feel that the standard Silvia double is a bit lacking strength wise, in the shots produced.
The 14g double from Coffee Parts is fine as is the Synesso double but it uses more coffee.
I hope this is of some help to you.

    Cheers,
    Alan

Im thinking of getting the 21g Synesso ridgeless soon, i imagine that would hold around 30g? sorry to hijack, but would it produce a longer ristretto?

I have the double Synesso ridgeless basket from Pullman. Measuring the dose for my Brugnetti it holds 21grams. For the Silvia it would be little less.
The basket from Pullman will also fit your Silvia basket. I dont if the other do. Anyone else tried?

Maybe my scales read a bit high or I updose a wee bit.
Im perfectly happy with the 14g double from Coffee Parts.
I reckon that the Synesso double is about the limit, depth wise, that the standard Silvia portafilter will accept.
