    EM6910 Steam broken

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Gday,

The steam thingy on my EM6910 has recently stopped working. Instead of producing an even flow, I get intermittent bursts of low-power steam.

The machine is a month old, and not heavily used. Im hoping its something I can fix/clean, rather than rely on warranty.

    Any answers appreciated!

    Thanks

    Hi 02Thief,

At a month old I wouldnt be mucking around.

I would take it back to the purchase point and demand a replacement.

    Not likely.

    Ditto.

Pump is failing / switch is loose / Scale ... bits in the steam path.

    TAKE it BACK.. Call Sunbeam.

    Re: EM6910 Steam broken

I seem to have a similar issue - my EM6910 is now out of warranty, and I have taken with me to Jakarta - hence no Sunbeam agents here :(

The steam was taking a loooong time to kick off (circa 30-40sec) and then when it did eventually kick in, it was pretty gutless.

This morning, its stopped altogether. The wand is still hot, but no pump. So i am thinking its not the thermoblock, only the pump.

Is this something i could replace myself? I am an engineer, so good with fixing things, and have a manual for the machine with exploded views.

Does anyone on the forum have a spare steam pump which is in working order? I shudder to think how much Sunbeam will want.

    Cheers
    Paul

Have you tried running a descale through the steam block. Search for AMs guide / warnings about doing this (slow pump rate, low thermoblock temp and do it outside) but it "may" solve the problem (and if it doesnt, its a pretty low cost way to try and find out)

    (slow pump rate
Should be fast pump rate. ie. wetter steam

I seem to recall that different types of descaling solutions do different things
    (hope I got this right)
One type disolves scale the other flakes it off
You want to use the type that disolves

    Re: EM6910 Steam broken

If the pump has stopped altogether, surely i couldnt use a descale? does it have to be run through the pump through the water tank? I am very fastidious with keeping the machine clean - and its only 14 months old.

    Thanks for the advice.

I am trying to chase up the price of a new steam pump through Sunbeam.
Is the steam pump covered by the 5 year warranty?

Thanks AM.. unfortunately I am living in Jakarta, so SB isnt just down the road. hard to claim warranty from here.

The unit has been fixed twice under warranty before, but not fiddled by me. Although i have exploded views and am keen to have a crack at replacing it myself (being a mechanical engineer).

    Cheers

    Thanks guys

Steam pump seems to be working this morning, did another factory reset.

Will wait to see if i get a reply from Sunbeam customer service, and perhaps will try the descale too if the pump keeps this up.

I am heading off for 2wks holiday to Thailand, and will check it again when i get back.

    Cheers

PS thx for advice AM. I was known as the child that can pull any appliance into a thousand pieces and rebuild, hey presto - it worked! sometimes i wasnt sure why - maybe things just like being pulled apart. Always disconnected from mains though ;)

Last steam pump that died on me worked when it arrived at SB so they sent it back untouched.
    It lasted 5 more days.
Just because its working this morning doesnt mean it will be working tomorrow. :(
