Sunbeam 6910- running whilst not even on!!!!

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Yeah, i bet you read the title and went What the????

Well, I cleaned my machine today and when I plugged it in and turned it on at the power point it started running water through as if I was making a coffee.... I had not turned the power switch on, on the machine, just at the wall. I tried turning on the power switch on the m achine and it made no difference, heated up as normal whilst still running water through. I have tried pushing various buttons, turning on the steam wand and running hot water through the hot water wand. Nothing gets it to stop except turning it off at the wall.

i even let it run out of water and as it still wasnt stopping, had to quickly turn it off at the wall. Any ideas?

how did you "clean" it? You may have got water into the LED circuit board at the buttons on the front.

    My first thoughts too.
Put it somewhere with a breeze and/or warm position to dry out.

ya, well having pulled one apart and knowing how that section works, it is vulnerable to contact with water. Having said that, you would have to be sloshing about a sopping wet cloth to get some right to the circuit board. :-X

I backflushed it as per manual with a cleaning tablet and wiped it over with a lightly damp cloth. Nothing different to what I have always done. I suspect too that there is water where it shouldnt be. I just turned it on again now and it is a bit better, kind of buzzing and there is a small amount of water coming from the overflow in the tray but it is not running through the grouphead like it was previously. Fingers crossed it will dry out and be fine.

Thanks AM for the offer, so good to know you are willing to help a fellow CSer out when you can. I appreciate it. However, the problem seems to have fixed itself so I can only assume there was water in the internals and it has dried out sufficiently. The whole thing was just bizarre.

It could be a fitting that is letting go when ya do your back flush..

So take care and just be aware next time you do a back flush...

ALSO.. Just use the rubber unit in the normal single floor basket..... Do not use a true blind basket..

Fingers crossed and let me know if it happens again..

So what did ya think of the show in Sydney ?

    Hi Mum2three,

I have experienced the same problem.

I called sunbeam and the lady told me off and said I cleaned it to heavily.

All i did was unscrew the showers screen and wash it in soapy water to get rid of the oil and coffee build up. Apart from a damp cloth to the shower area i didnt even get the machine wet.

Ive realized that its got something to do with turning the machine off at the power point and leaving it off for a while.

I dont know why it happens but it might be a faulty circuit board, I will be getting mine serviced soon.
