    Warranty on em6910?

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Im leaning towards buying an em6910/em0480 combo as my entry machine and grinder. I know opinions are divided on this machine due to its numerous breakdowns. :-/

Ive noticed that there is a 5 year warranty offered by Sunbeam. Is this a new thing or does the warranty just not cover the problems that usually occur? [smiley=rolleyes.gif]

    Re: Warranty on em6910?

The sunbeam warranty of 5 years only covers the pumps, the usual problems are only covered for 1 year....you can get an extra 4 years warranty for an extra $100......this warranty covers all what the Mfctr covers for that first year.

by the way, a great first machine for the money......just make sure you get a great deal ;)

    cheers

    Bingo!

I believe it covers the pump only.

If you call your toaster or clothing iron a machine, then this is a fair term to use. When Im in a kind mood, I call it an appliance with built-in self destruct technology.

While the Sunbeam warranty is pretty good, you will be without coffee for anything up to months on each claim--your call.

If you think you are likely (or inevitably) going to upgrade, then upgrade on your first purchase and save money.

Ive had 18 months of almost troublefree use of the em6910/em0480 using a lot of care (and maybe a bit of luck). I know its not the best you can buy (Im thinking of upgrading now) but you can make excellent coffee with it using fresh beans and some practice.
From all reports, its not a long term proposition but it certainly got me started on the road to coffee nirvana.

    Re: Warranty on em6910?

I have three basic requirements from my machine
    1. Good coffee(of course!)
2 Quick start (must have caffeine hit before work)
    3. Mutiple cups in reasonable time for entertaining

After much trawling of this site and others it seems that the em6910 ticks all boxes. The silvia sounds great and definitely ticks number one, but lets me down on 2 and 3.

Are there any other machines that can do this for me? I also drink milky coffees which I know makes a difference.

Check out my FS.. Does all 3 and then some plus MORE.. Her looks even entertain ;)

You implied as $$$ range but did not quantify... Thus many machines can meet / exceed you needs.

    Re: Warranty on em6910?

Your requirements would seem to leave you with two obvious choices--a cheaper thermoblock machine, or a more expensive HX machine on a timer.

In the lower price range the Sunbeam is a contender. There are Breville machines in the same area but they havent, as far as I know, been on the market long enough to generate much experience in longevity, coffee quality, etc.

I personally think the best option is either a 6910/0480 or second hand silvia/rocky, second option will last longer by a long shot, but will have difficulties with multiple milk drinks.......

If you do decide to go for the sunbeam em6910/0480 you might want to get the extended 5 year warranty. This is different from the 5 year pump warranty that sunbeam offer. Its usually offered by some other company not sunbeam. Its a worthwhile investment i reckon and also transferable.

Yeah it works AA, to a certain extent, it wont get the whole system hot, but it will get warmish.....but IMO turning on miss silvia 25 mins earlier is better than spending time trying to cheat it, personally ;)

Yes it worked but not as hard as I had to :-[

In eight minutes you need to cover 27 steps from switch on to clean up - that wasnt my idea of enjoying coffee.

I gave up and installed a PID. When the PID eventually gave up I UPGRADED to the Sunbeam EM6910 and have never regretted it :D

    Alternately, 4 steps:

    • Switch on
    • Wait 30 min
    • Make coffee
    • Drink

No need to make a complex operation out of a simple one I reckon ::)

Just like to share how good the SB is at making great coffee. *It wont last as long as Silvia, but I dont judge my coffee by how long the equipment lasts but by whats in the cup as AM so often reminds us *;)

BTW its getting even better since I took delivery of my Dema.RAL *::)

    Re: Warranty on em6910?

    Hi,

Ive had an em6910 for just over 3 years now.
Makes a great coffee - while its working.
Unfortunatlely it appears that I purchased one of the dodgy machines and I have clocked up 4 repairs to date.
I did manage to have the first repair within the 12 month warranty period.
The real issue is finding a decent repairer.
My first 2(aka 3) repairs were done by the same repair agent.
I had the machine home for 30 minutes after the 2nd repair before I had to take it straight back to them to actually do the job.

So then 110 days later when it again failed I took it to another authorised agent.
When I called 3 weeks after dropping it off, I was told "Please dont call us, well call you when its finished".
2 Months later (yes- 2 MONTHS) I still hadnt heard anything, so I wrote a letter explaining my machines history and my inability to find an "authorised repair agent" who could actually do the job.

Sunbeam called and informed me that a) the agent was no longer recommended by Sunbeam and b) theyd be getting the machine sent directly to them and c) theyd be sending me a brand new 6910.

    Would I buy another/recommend a 6910?
    ... yes,..
BUT - back on topic - Id make sure I got the extended warranty.
It appears to me that warrantys are the repairers priority.
AND Id do research on locating a decent repairer, if it becomes necessary.

To me its kinda like getting poll position at Bathurst and being extremely proud of that even though you know you will break down half way through the race and not finish.

Do yourself a favor and look at something italian like this and a suitable grinder.
