Lelit combi vs fully auto delonghi

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hi
I am new to this & am looking for a gift for my wife for her 40th. I was looking at a Delonghi ECAM23450S, but then reading about the Lelit Combi.

Mainly for approx 2-6 cups per day (6 would be extreme)
Any pros & cons between the two would be appreciated.
    Tim

    Welcome to Coffee Snobs.

    Apples and oranges Tim.

The price difference is almost double one to the other.
One is fully automatic the other isnt.

I think the first questions you need to answer are, how much your wife is into coffee?
How involved in the process is she likely to get i.e. is she likely to want to get very involved or will she prefer to just push a button?

Few rough ideas on good and bad, but if really good coffee is the priority then an easy choice ;)

Semi Auto Lelit/Silvia (non Heat exchanger machines)
    Pros
Superior coffee to fully autos with some care and attantion to the process will see you making coffees better than a lot of cafes.
Rugged and reliable and relitively simple to maintain with basic tools and skills.
    Cons
Slower to properly heat up compared to thermoblock style machines.
Time taken to go from Shot to steam and back again is a problem if your trying for a few brews in a row (only cure is a HX machine)
More care and skill in the preparation before you make the coffee is needed.
    Not as pretty

    Fully Auto
    Pros
As easy as pushing a button or two will get you a reasonable coffee.
Looks maybe more attractive to some on the kitchen bench.
    Cons
Other than basic cleaning not generally user servicable (read expensive to maintain)
Prone to breaking down due to cheap components in the auto area and not being careful with cleaning.
Zero chance of ever making a really great coffee

Excellent summary! *Having spent many years with the similarly specd Silvia/Lux grinder team I was able to hone my skills and love of the espresso making process. *With an Auto my journey would have stalled. *Do you and your wife want to make wonderful coffee, or is very average coffee and suspect reliablity of equipment good enough?

    Thanks for your opinions.
After reading a bit about it & your comments, I think we would much prefer a more reliable machine & great coffee..

    Much appreciated :) :)
