Silva portafilter water leaking and it does not tighten correctly

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight

    gday

I have a Silva version 2 and the portafilter only seems to close a 1/8 -1/6 turn even if I put a fair bit of force into closing. Water now drips constantly when in use and sometimes unless I really close to with a lot of force the portafilter will start to unlossen during use. You can see it undo. Today it fell out when my wife installed it as was making the coffee.
I would say that it closes to 7pm position
Is there a seal that I need to replace. It is about 15 months old and never used to be a problem

    Thanks for any information?

    Kevin

    Hi Kevin
Follow this link, it should take you to the Coffee Parts website (they have lots of neat stuff)

$4.75 + gst + postage & your leakage should become history!

    hey Kevin,

yeah seems like you might need to take out the gasket and give it a good clean and place a new one in.

i had a similar problem my my 2nd hand silvia that i bought from a fellow CSer and he did get a new boiler / gasket put in and it still leaked. but by really really tightening it, to maybe around 5 o clock (it went that far with mine but it may vary. it helped stop the leak.

it still leaks sometimes if i dont tighten it to the max, so one of these days i might try and change the gasket again.

but anyway i found a website that gave a couple of ideas and photos on how to open it, by screwing a couple of screws on the gasket and pulling it out by pliers. more details on coffeecos website on the october 2006 newsletter.

    hope that helps
