    Rancilio Ms Silva Problem

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
We have just acquired a Ramcilio Silva but are not getting good results. The water delivery into the coffeefrom the group head appears too much/too fast causing the coffee produced from the portafiller as weak and runny, not a nice thick slow delivery. Is this usua or are there any adjustments I need to make. I am grinding good beans to a pretty fine consistency and am ensuring the grind gets a good frim tamping.

    Thanks

Assuming all else is well, you need to grind finer and/or dose more coffee.

    Hi nelly s

Sounds like your beans are not fresh. If your coffee pours out fast like black runny water and no crema on top it points straight to stale coffee beans. I have had silvia & rocky for a few years now and i really hate it when I buy fresh coffee beans??? that give me black runny water. Never buy beans from that place again.

Stale beans might mean no crema but the fast flow / runnyness (if that were a word) is probably due to a grind that is too course.

Make it finer then sand so that when you rub it in your fingers its soft and light but still grainy. Tamp and then try it all again.
The level of your puck should be about half or one centimetre or so from the top.

Hello there & welcome to CS.

Youve only just bought the machine? There is a steep learning curve with Silvia. There is nothing you can adjust except grind, If the machine works it works.

Check you operator technique in toto....not just grind. When you get things right Silvia rewards you with quasi commercial quality coffee. When you dont.......she turns her back on you.

Suggest taking a specialist lesson as its the quickest way to cut to the chase. Your retailer should be able to help with this??????

    Agreed Attilio,

Nelly, have a look over www.espressocompany.com.au/how-to.htm - an online dvd and a great place to start.

    Good luck ;)
