care and maintenance of new machine

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Looking for some advice...I have a new Lelit machine. It is regularly backflushed and kept nice and clean. I am wondering what damage is being done by the use of Melbourne tap water in my boiler. Can any Melbourne based CSers advice whether I should be descaling and if so how often? Does it involve dismantling machine or do I just pour some descaler into the water tank?? Any advice will be much appreciated.

Just found a really useful video on Youtube that demonstartes how to descale so I guess I get it now. Only question now is how often do people descale? I understand it can damage the boiler if you overdo it so if you are using hard Melbourne water is it a monthly task or a six monthly task??

    Hi Mishky,

If you PM with your postal address I will send you a simple test strip to measure the hardness of your water. The result will then help you determine what maintenance you should be doing and how regularly.

Hi Mishky I used a Total Hardness test strip supplied by E61 and the water in the Dandenong Ranges east of Melbourne gave a result of 0 PPM, 0 GPG/DH. Not sure how much variation there is in the water across metropolitan Melbourne
