Does the Silvia steam valve need lubrication?

Thanks to the excellent people at coffeeparts.com, Ive just performed my first proper service on my pre-08 Silvia, triggered by coming home from 2-weeks away to find my group head seal hosed; possibly from not being used during that time? I took the opportunity to pull apart some of the more important bits and clean them out and replace gaskets and o-rings.

It works great now, I should have done this long ago and will be sure to make a more regular habit of it. However, the steam valve is now slightly stiffer to turn, especially for a particular part of the turn (i.e. each 360 degree turn involves a stiff portion and a more free-moving portion), plus its a tad squeaky when turning it. Im just assuming this is OK and will smooth out after a little while however Im wondering if I should be lubricating the thread of the inside of the steam valve with something? Itd be lovely with a bit of oil but I imagine that would work its way into the steam. Is there a correct procedure for this?

    Cheers,
    Arv

Use a food grade grease metal on metal means wear it should be lubricated

    Thanks for the response.

Is that something I can just pick up at a hardware store or do I need to go somewhere special (or online perhaps?).

All done, I couldnt source any food-grade grease locally so I got it from Di Bartoli online. Machine feels fantastic, its like new; except for the exterior which is notoriously difficult to keep nice, plus the stupid laminated plastic bit surrounding the group head.

Anyone out there with a Silvia thats been more than a couple of years without a service, performed professionally or otherwise, I would highly recommend it.
